ENVIRONMEN
 The environment is something that you T are very
familiar with it. It’s everything that makes up
our surroundings and affects our ability to live
on the earth. The air we breathe, the water that
covers most of the earth’s surface, the plants
and animals around us.

 The Climatic Condition Depends on the Air,

Temperature.Everyone is now Feeling the
Change of Climate due to the Rise in Air
Temperature of the Earth.
 More Presence of Carbon di Oxide is Resulting Ozone
Layer Depletion & Acid Rain.

 Due to Enormous Increase in Population & Stress on

Environmental Factors Like Air, Water & Soil, it is Now
Urgently Needed to Frame Guideline & Rules for the
Management of Environment in a Proper Way.

 In recent years, scientists have been carefully examining

the ways that people affect the environment. They have found
that we are causing air pollution, deforestation, acid rain, and
other problems that are dangerous both to the earth and to
ourselves.

 A Good Management of Environment can only bring

a Sustainable Life to all in this Planet Earth.
MANAGEMENT
 Management means directing and controlling a group of people
or an organization to reach a goal.

 The best definition of Management refers to-

o The optimal way to accomplish tasks and achieve goals,

o Planning,
o Organizing,
o Staffing,
o Directing,
o Controlling functions or processes.
ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT: Definition

 Environmental Management can be defined as

“the management of the interaction and impact of human
activities on the natural environment”.

  Environmental management tries to identify the factors that

have a stake in the conflicts that may rise between meeting
the needs but protecting the environment.

 Essentially, environmental management focuses on
resource consumption and waste generation. By taking a
“measure it to manage it” approach.
The componenets of Environmental Management are based on
Five Fundamental Aspects

Environmental Percertion and Public Awareness.

Environmental Education and Training.
Resource Management.
Control of Environmental Degredation and Pollution.
Environmental Impact Assessment.
ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT: Importance

The responsibilities of an environmental management is to

supervise and regulate the activities of public, private and
other organizations to prevent air pollution, water pollution
and random waste disposal.
The objective of environmental management is improved
human life quality. It involves the mobilization of resources
and the use of government to administer the use of both
natural and economic goods and services. It is based on
the principles of ecology.
A degree in environmental management will provide you
the set of skills you can use to save the change the world.
ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT: Three components

 The three primary processes
of a management system
include:
- Core processes,
- Their outputs,
-The identification of
significant environmental aspe
cts and impacts.
ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT: General scheme

 Identification of objectives and

define problems.
 Determination of appropriate action
plan.
 Implementation and progress
evaluation.
 Monitoring and adjustment
management.
 Future environmental management.
Two Main Standards

The British Standards Institute’s

A. BS7750- “Specification for

Environmental Management System”

B. ISO 14001- “Environmental

Management System”
IS0 14001
The ISO Family of Environmental Standards
and Alligned with BS7750.
First Released in 1996 and then Amended in
2004, Revision in 2015.
Focused on the Designed and Implementation of
an Environmental Management System.
More than 80,000 Companies have been
certified to ISO 14001 Standard
ISO 14001 EMS Standard.
There are more than 300,000 certifications to ISO 14001 in
171 countries around the world
What is an EMS ?
 An Environmental Mangement System (EMS) is a framework that helps an
Organization achieve its Environmental goals through consistent review, evaluation and
improvement of its environmental performance.

 This Consistent review and evaluation will identify opportunities for improving and
implementing the environmental performance of the organization.

 An Environmental Management System (EMS) is a set of Procss and practices tha

enable an organization to rduce its environmental impacts and increase its operating
efficiency.

 An EMS helps an organization address its regulatory demands in a systematic and cost-
effective manner. This proactive approach can help reduce the risk of non-compliance
and improve health and safety practices for employees and he public.
Potential Benefits of EMS
Improved Environmental Performance.
Enhanced Compliance.
Pollution Prevention.
Resource Conservation.
New Customers/Markets.
Increased Efficiency/Reduced Costs
Enhanced Employee Moral.
Employee Awareness of Environmental Issues &
Responsibilities.
ISO 14001 Standard
The Most Commonly Used Framework for an
EMS is the one Developed by the International
Organization for Standardization (ISO) for the
ISO 14001 Standard.

This Framework is the official International

Standard for an EMS Which is Based on the
Plan-Do-Check-Act Methodology.
1.Commitment & Policy
Top Management Commits to Environmental Improvement and
Establishes the Organization’s Environmental Policy. The Policy is the
Foundation of the EMS.
2. Planning
 Identification of Environmental Aspects of it’s Operation.(e.g Air Pollution or
Hazardous Waste).
 Determination of Significant Aspects.(e.g Worker Health and Safety,
Environmental Compliance, Cost etc).
 Setting Objectives and Target.
 Devising an Action Plan for Meeting the Targets.(e.g Designating
Responsibilities, Establishing Schedule and Outlining Clearly Defined Steps o
Meet the Targets).
3. Implementation
A Organization Follows through with the Action Plan using the Necessary Resources
(Human, Financial etc). An Important Component is Employee Training and Awareness
for all Employees. Other Steps in the Implementation Stage Include Documentation,
Following Operating Procedures and Setting up Internal and External Communication
Lines.
4. Evaluation
A Company Monitors it’s Operation to Evaluate Whether Targets are being Met. If not,
Company takes Corrective Action.

5. Review
Top Mnagement Reviews the Results of the Evaluation to see if the EMS is Working.
Mnagement Determines Whether the Original Environmental Policy is Consistent with the
Organization’s Value. The Plan is then Revised o Optimize the Effectiveness of the EMS.
The Review Stage Creates a Loop of Continuous Improvement for a Company.
 The Business, Energy, Environment, and Sustainability concentration
(formerly environmental policy and management) examines the relationship
between business and the natural environment, including human health and
safety as well as addressing a range of policy issues.

 Environmental policy, any measure by a government or corporation or other

public or private organization regarding the effects of human activities on
the environment, particularly those measures that are designed to prevent or
reduce harmful effects of human activities on ecosystems.

 Environmental policy should contain brief statements on the following: The

business mission and information about its operations. ... A commitment to
continually improve your environmental performance. A commitment to
prevent pollution and effectively manage your
significant environmental impacts.
