South Africa’s Apartheid
 1948-1994: Apartheid: “apartness” – system of
segregation – legal racism
 White Afrikaner minority (5.2% of population) of South
Africa controlled all the politics (They were the
descendants of Dutch settlers in South Africa in 17th
century.)
 Apartheid meant: No interracial marriage, blacks
forced to live in specified areas, whites got the best jobs
and highest paying, blacks had to have a special ID at all
times or would be arrested without it, blacks could not
vote and they were not allowed to be citizens of their
own native land and more.
