ABSTRACT

In Civil Engineering, Building construction field is a vast

area. In that structures must be designed for durability, cost
effective, and it should serve for our purpose. In our country we
have to improve the infrastructures to fulfill our needs.

With the rapid increase in population and availability of

modern amenities in the cities, people in the rural area, have
developed a tendency to move to urban area. Large numbers of
people have migrated to the cities and these exoduses have been
mainly responsible for overcrowding, this will leads to congestions
in maintaining their records.

The aim in this project is to design of “TOWN

PANCHAYAT OFFICE BUILDING” with all the necessary
facilities. Panchayat office building is a multi structure with
individual room’s with a common entrance. We had planned to
implement this Town Panchayat office building at Vadivel nagar,
Karur.

INTRODUCTION

1.GENERAL

The aim of this project is to design a “TOWN PANCHAVAT OFFICE

BUILDING” with all the necessary facilities. Panchayat office building is a multi
structure with individual rooms with a common entrance. We had to implement
this town Panchayat Office Building at Vadivel nagar,Erode Road,Karur.

The details of this project are as follows:

Type of structure : Office building
Venue : Vadivel nagar
No of storey : G+1
Area of the site : 745.97 m2
Plinth area : 214.97m2
Function of the ground floor :Hall, chairman
room, computer room,E.O room.
Functions of first floor : Meeting hall, record room
Floor height : 3.05 m
Materials : M20 & Fe 415
Outer Wall thickness : 230 mm
Inner Wall thickness : 120 mm

For designing the framed structure we have followed the limit state method
of design and referred to IS 456-2000, SP 16 and IS 875-1987.
6
1.2 SEQUENCE
The sequence of process that we have followed in our project is:
Plan
Load calculation
Structural analysis
Structural design
Preparation of structural drawing and detailing

2.3 SPECIFICTION

1.3.1Earthwork Excavation in Footing

As the construction is of framed structure, pits are excavated out for
the construction of footings. The earth is also excavated out for the plinth beam
connecting of the column. The earthwork excavation for the foundation is
proposed to a depth of 1.2 m below the ground level for the design. The SBC of
soil adopted is 225 kn/sq.m.

2.3.2Footing concrete
The footing will be of M20 grade of concrete. The P.C.C 1:4:8 mix
is used for a plain surface for the sensing of footing concrete.

3.3.3Damp proof Course

Damp proof course is provided to a thickness of 20 mm around the plinth
level using C.M 1:3

4.3.4Plinth beam
Plinth beam made in M20 grade of concrete, 230 mm x 230 mm size
provided over the basement all round.

5.3.5Basement
7
The basement is filled with earth to a depth of 100 mm and clear sand to a
depth of 450 mm.
1.3.6Super structure
The super structure is to be 1st class B.W in C.M 1:5, 230 mm
thick

2.3.7Plastering
All walls including basement will be plastered smooth with C.M
1:5 externally and internally, 12 mm thick.

3.3.8Roofing
The roofing will be of M20 grade of concrete, 120 mm thick flat
slab and plastered smooth with C.M 1:3, 10 mm thick.

4.3.9Flooring
The flooring will be of M20 grade of concrete, flooring finished
with granite tile in C.M 1:3, 20 mm thick for all rooms and tiles is used for toilets.

5.3.10Doors and windows

The door shall be of country wood and main door of teak wood
with varnish finishing. The window and ventilator shall be glazed and country
wood framed.

6.3.11Lintel
R.C.C lintel will be provided with 1:1.5:3 mix, 150 mm thick cut
lintel. All external openings are provided with lintel cum sunshade.

1.3.12Staircase
Stair will be of M20 grade of concrete. Rise of 170 mm and
thread of 250 mm with a landing of 1025 mm.

7.3.13White washing and painting

All plastered area is washed with high quality shelling with three
coats, paint is applied over the prepared surface . 8
1.3.14Water pipe line
Water from the overhead tank is taken to sintex tank. The pipes are
used to discharge the water from the sintex tanks to each flat. Here PVC pipes
are used for water pipe lines.

2.3.15Electrification
Electrical network is formed within the structure itself. Ordinary
plastics tubes are used to form the network of electricity which conveys the
electrical power from the origin to destination during the time of converting
itself.

3.3.16Sanitary Fittings
A separate pipe network was used for the purpose of sanitation.
Concrete pipe are used to dispose the waste water from apartment.

CONCLUSION

The building acts as a three-dimensional space frame. All the slabs have
designed as two way slabs. The analysis of frames was done using middle strip
method. The beams have been designed by taking both bending moment and shear
force from the analysis results in to considerations.

The design of slabs, beams, lintels cum sunshade, footing and staircase were
done manually. All the drawing presented in these project reports were drafted using
Auto CAD 2009 software.

Planning, analysis and design of an office building has provided us immense

help in understanding the problems met with the particular designs and helped us
too in getting familiar in using various software, design charts, etc.. which are
essential for an engineer.

The office building which we designed is economical. The office building

will be beneficiary to the people in and around the city.
