What is Self-Esteem?

How do you feel about yourself?

Self-Esteem is composed of your feelings about
all areas of your life!
If you have high self-esteem, you basically like
yourself for who you are.
If you have low self-esteem, you are generally
unhappy with yourself.
Variations in Self-Esteem

Your self-concept and self-esteem may change


a little from day to day.
How do you feel when you make an A on a test
vs. a failing grade?
Your Present years are the most difficult in
establishing your self-esteem.
Your day-to-day self esteem is not really what’s
important, it’s you’re overall feelings about
yourself that matters most!
The Importance of Self-
Esteem

High self-esteem helps you form


healthful relationships with the people around
you.
Low self-esteem often creates the opposite
situation.
If you like yourself and are confident in your
abilities, others will be attracted to you!
Your behavior says everything about your level
of self-esteem.
Indications of High Self-
Esteem
Someone:
That is usually in a good mood.
You enjoy being around.
That has a good sense of humor.
That is able to laugh at themselves.
That takes pride in their achievements but does
not feel the need to boast.
That is not afraid to try new things.
That is not afraid to fail.
That likes themselves and enjoys making others
around them feel good too!
Indications of Low Self-
Esteem
Someone:
That belittles their own accomplishments, talents
or looks.
That brags about themselves.
That sets unrealistic deadlines.
That sees only their faults when they look in a
mirror, rather than the good things about
themselves
That is not part of any group.
That feels no one likes them.
That treats others poorly.
How to Improve your
Self-Esteem
Accept yourself as you are
Pay attention to your strong points.
Learn to accept praise.
Learn to be kind to yourself.
Get involved in something!
Relax.
Try to look your best!
Learn to enjoy life!
Learn to handle trouble!
Live in the present.
