“Financial Performance evaluation of private commercial banks in Bangladesh: an Analysis of five

selected banks”

Introduction

 City Bank has been an evolutionary case study from 1983 to date, changing over time from a
conventional entity to a widely acclaimed multi-faceted institution that adopts global best
practices and chooses to be at the forefront of technological initiatives. They have with 132
branches and 369 ATM + CDM locations.

 ONE Bank Limited was established under the Companies Act by the Registrar of Joint Stock
Companies in May 1999. 1994,in the private sector as a commercial bank. The Bank is
dedicated to serving clients and the society with the utmost commitment. With the spirit and
conviction to succeed as ONE Bank in both value and image, the primary emphasis is on
perform.
OBJECTIVES

Specific objective:
■ The main goals of the study are:
■ To know about the financial results of the chosen banks
■ To find out the adequacy of Liquidity gap analysis, liquidity ratio, return on assets (ROA),
return on equity (ROE), net interest margin (NIM).
■ To Calculating the last five years financial performance of selected banks.
■ To assessment of the contribution of such banks to the economy
■ To find out the challenges facing banks in the liquidity and non-performance loan crisis.
■ To recognize the financial performance issues and to propose some suggestions to resolve
those issues.
Methodology

Data has been collected for this study of various secondary sources such as;

 Newspaper and different articles


 Selected banks annual reports of last 5 years
 Website of Bangladesh Bank
 Website of Selected banks
 Various brochures of published by banks
 Past research works
Findings
■ Although the performance of capital management of all the selected banks have showed an
improving trend during the period of 2015 to 2019, the performance of Prime Bank Ltd is not
satisfactory in comparison with the remaining four other banks
■ The NPL percentage of all selected banks is at a reasonably satisfactory level. A relatively high
recovery rate for loans suggests that banks are able to successfully handle their loans.
■ Dhaka bank, Prime Bank & ONE Bank cash ratio is more satisfactory than other selected
banks. Standard Bank ltd should take necessary step to improve their liquidity position.
■ The profitability management of all the selected banks have decreasing trend during 2015 to
2019, the performance of Standard Bank Ltd is lower than other. So, the management of these
five banks should take necessary measure to improve the performance.
■ City Bank Ltd EPS was higher 2015 t0 2017 but it decrease in 2018, again it increase their
EPS, it shown that the City bank Ltd try to improve their earning ability.
Conclusion

 The banking sector is a big economic growth factor. Bangladesh has been rising in the economic field in recent
years, but there are many problems in the banking industry. For many years, banks have increased in size, but
they are now engaged in unhealthy competition among them. The financial performance of the five
commercial City Bank Ltd, Prime Bank Ltd, Standard Bank Ltd, One Bank Ltd and Dhaka Bank Ltd was
analyzed in this report. In the past, private commercial banks in Bangladesh have dealt with some unfavorable
political circumstances, and they still face many problems that are beyond their control.
 This study compare the total ratio of each five year with industry average and get a normal feedback from that
each ratio. Every Bank have some prospects and problems. If they perfectly monitor their regulatory and
performance activity, then they will surely overcome their problem.
