Assessment Objectives AO1 READING

AO2 Writing

 Candidates will be assessed on their ability to

W1 articulate experience and express what is thought, felt and imagined


W2 organize and structure ideas and opinions for deliberate effect
W3 use a range of vocabulary and sentence structures appropriate to context
W4 use register appropriate to context
W5 make accurate use of spelling, punctuation and grammar.
Some students will be selected to study IGCSE
Literature if they get a Grade B in 2 monthly
pre-mocks and 1st Main Mock
This is optional and not enforced.

 Extension task – Travel Writing Piece


EXEXCEL English Literature 4ET1 9-1 IGCSE

Paper 1 : Two hours long: 


Poetry/prose (compulsory) (Closed book)  (60% of mark). A clean copy of anthology will be provided in the
exam. 
Section A : Unseen poetry question = 20 marks 
Section B : Question on the anthology = 30 marks 
Section C: Prose = 40 marks 

Paper 2 : One hour 30 minutes 


Clean copies of books are allowed in the exam 
Section A : Drama  (AIC) = 30 marks 
Section B : Literary Heritage text (Macbeth) = 30 marks 
Main Task : 15 – 20 minutes
Travel Writing
 Travel writing is personal writing
 It is a written account of the writer's experience of visiting a place
 The writer (describes) the place; the people; the cultural experiences and
historical aspects etc.
 This type of writing is heavily (descriptive) as expected but can be
educational, informative and humorous depending on what tone the writer
chooses.
 It usually makes for an enjoyable read and can really help people get an
insight before embarking on a particular destination.
TASK : You will write a short travel piece for your
local newspaper

 Select a place you have visited and know quite a lot about – this can be about Doha/Qatar .
 Think of the most interesting or 2/3 most interesting aspects of this place and structure 3 paragraphs
to capture the essence of the chosen place.
 Ensure you use descriptive language ( sensory language) to capture the mood, atmosphere and spirit.
 Inform your readers of (must see) elements and state why.

200 words at least. Finish for homework – email to tutor – deadline Wed 9 Sept 2020
