2
Objective :
The project aims:
 To design a wifi based(wireless) digital tachometer.
To learn the use of Labview.
To measure the speed of rotating disk.

3
Tachometer Types:
•Digital Tachometer
• Analog Tachometer
•Contact Tachometer
• Non-Contact Tachometer

Why digital , contactless and

wire less?

4
Components Required :
 Female Header Pins
 NodeMCU ESP8266 module
 IR Proximity Sensor
 Female Jumper Wire
 9V Battery
 Connecting Cable
 9V motor
 Laser Sensor

5
•NodeMCU :
•NodeMCU is an open
source platform. It
includes firmware which runs
on the ESP8266 Wi-Fi  and
hardware which is based on
the ESP-12 module. The term
"NodeMCU" by default refers
to the firmware rather than
the development kits.

6
Labview:

• LabVIEW is a visual programming

language: it is a system-design platform
and development environment that was
aimed at enabling all forms of system to
be developed.

• Pulse width:

Note the width, in seconds or microseconds, of each pulse. This is the pulse

width, or PW, of the signal. Calculate the period, or "T", of the frequency, or "f,"
using the formula: T = 1/f.
For example, if the frequency is 20 hz, then T = 1/20, with a result of 0.05 seconds.

Outcomes:
We are able to :
Measure accurate RMP using IR proximity sensor.
Use laser sensor for better performance of tachomter.
Run NodeMCU in LabVIEW using LINX.

9
Limitations:

• Can’t give accurate reading due to

light interference .
• Vibrations of motor fan interepts the
pulse generatrion.
Range for :
IR Proximity sensor ( 850 nm ... 50 µm).
Laser sensor ( 10 m).
