Memorizing
• Few speakers today memorize complete speeches
• Often first few words of a statement can be memorized
• A risk of memorization is forgetting your precise words
• Groping for words in front of an audience decreases your credibility
Reading
• Major political figures and others who do not want to make a mistake read
speech
• Today speakers on television often read from a teleprompter
• A device allowing them to read their words directly from a script passing in
front of the camera lens

Impromptu

• Speak without preparation


• Without a forewarning that you will speak, you are speaking
impromptu

You should study your audience both before and during the
presentation
Preliminary Analysis
• Size up the audience- it is likely to influence how formal or informal
your speech should be
• As a rule, large audiences require more formality
• Personal Characteristics( age, gender, education, experience,
knowledge of the subject) influence how you make your speech
• Affecting the words, illustrations, and level of details you use
Analysis during presentation
• Analyse audience reaction during the speech
• Your ears and eyes will give you feedback
• Facial expression will tell you how your listeners are reacting to your
message
