Shawarma: The Arabian Taco

Automatic Restaurant/Cafeteria - Abu Dhabi

What is a shawarma? Shawarma (the closest English translation to the

Arabic) is all of those things, and more. It’s pita bread filled with different
ingredients and meats. People also think that the Shawarma is similar to
Gyro (from Greece), this is not true: the Gyro, usually has different
ingredients inside the sandwich. Gyro meat is often quite different as
well; both in its spices and in that Gyro meat is usually a mixture of beef
and lamb, but Shawarma is typically never beef and occasionally only
lamb.
In the United States, most Gyros in restaurants come from the same
company and the meat has a very particular flavor. You can find
Shawarma in any country and in any food court. There are also Shawarma
stands on the streets where they prepare the different recipes of
Shawarma.

My favorite dish is Pabellon. To make Pabellon, I need a lot of

black beans, a few black bananas, some rice and some
shredded meat. I also need a few condiments and a little salt.
In my fridge, I have some beef and in the cupboard there are
some black beans. I don’t have any tomatoes or onions for the
meat. Pabellon is from Venezuela. I sometimes eat Pabellon for
