Makassar City is the capital city of
South Sulawesi province. Makassar
is the largest metropolitan city in the
Eastern Indonesia region and in the
past was the capital of the State of
East Indonesia and the Province of
Sulawesi.
Makassar City consists of 15 district
and 153 villages. In 2017, this
district has an area of 199.26 km²
and a population of 1,663,479
people with a population distribution
of 8,348 people / km²
TOURISM IN MAKASSAR
Makassar is a large city located in South Sulawesi. As a tourist
destination, you may not be too popular compared to other
destinations. Even though this city has a myriad of uniqueness and
beauty in it. You can explore as a whole in every corner of the city.

At first glance, the city of Makassar is indeed more famous for its
various culinary offerings that are well known to the Indonesian people
in general. However, you need to know that this place has a lot of

Masjid 99 Kubah

MASJID 99 KUBAH
This mosque is known as the 99 Dome Mosque which is the number of domes in this
mosque. 99 is taken from Asmaul Husna which is the name of Allah and succeeded in
making this mosque have a magnificent and beautiful architecture at the same time.
Because it was built on the reclamation area of ​Losari beach, of course, this mosque has
an amazing panorama. Especially if you watch it from Anjungan Pantai Losari. Just
imagine when the sun goes down, the building will combine with the beautiful reddish
sky that is enchanting. The colors look beautiful and make it even more magnificent
with a unique building structure.
The first floor is used for male worshipers and partly used for Islamic books and Muslim
clothing. The second floor is used as a prayer room for women with a water front view.
With this building, of course, it will make worship more comfortable.
At certain moments such as sunset, of course, the beauty of the mosque with a number of
tens of domes will be even more beautiful. Even when you come during the day, it will
still produce beautiful photos. The dome's bright color blends with the blue sky will be a
nice blend.
A mosque can not only be used as a place of worship, but can also be used as religious
tourism. Given that now the mosque has a very unique and beautiful design that spoils
the eyes of anyone who sees it. As with the 99 Dome mosque which was adapted from
Asmaul Husna to produce a unique and beautiful building. Standing near Losari beach
makes the mosque look even more amazing and provokes awe.

Located in an area with a 99-dome mosque,
Lego-lego is a large culinary, jogging and
playing arena located on the edge of the CPI
area. Visitors can see first hand the beauty of
Losari Beach and the 99-domed mosque while
enjoying the panoramic beauty of the city of
Makassar. This culinary area can also be used by
Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs)
to promote the products they sell. In this place
you can get the typical food of Makassar, namely
mie titi or mie kering and also business people

Fort Rotterdam &
Samalona island
FORT ROTTERDAM
Fort Rotterdam is a 17th-century fort in Makassar on the
island of Sulawesi in Indonesia. It is a Dutch fort built on top
of an existing fort of the Gowa Kingdom. The first fort on the
site was constructed by the a local sultan in around 1634, to
counter Dutch encroachments. The site was ceded to the
Dutch under the Treaty of Bongaya, and they completely
rebuilt it between 1673 and 1679. It had six bastions and was
surrounded by a seven meter high rampart and a two meter
deep moat.
The fort was the Dutch regional military and governmental
headquarters until the 1930s. It was extensively restored in
the 1970s and is now a cultural and educational centre, a
venue for music and dance events, and a tourist destination.
The people of Gowa-Makassar call this fort as Panyyua (Turtle) Fort
which is the headquarters of the Gowa Kingdom Frog Troops
(Pasukan Katak). The term panyyua or turtle refers to the overall
shape of Fort Rotterdam which, when viewed from the air, looks like
a turtle entering the beach.
Inside the fort, there is a museum called La Galigo museum. La
Galigo museum has some prehistoric megaliths from Watampone, as
well as ancient weapons, coins, shells, utensils, sketches and stamps
until the development of culture to modern times items These
historical objects are displayed in large glass boxes and showcases,
including axes, arrowheads, jewelery, statues and many more.
Apart from ancient objects, La Galigo Museum also displays the life
history of the people of South Sulawesi which is displayed in a
traditional house model. This museum also displays the livelihoods of
local people who are mostly sailors. A miniature Phinisi ship on
display in one corner of the museum depicts how the people of South
Sulawesi have always been great sailors.
SAMALONA ISLAND
After all this time, Makassar is always identic with
Losari beach, as highligh destination. Do you
know that in Makassar there is an island that has a
natural beauty with terrific view? The name of the
island is Samalona. Samalona is a small island
located in the district of Ujung Pandang,
Makassar, South Sulawesi province. The distance
is about seven kilometers from the city of
Makassar.
Samalona Island has a beach with fne white sand
and the sea water that is pure blue. On this island,
there are many coconut trees that give dramatic
nuance over the beauty. Samalona Island is also
famous for the beauty of the underwater. Those
who visit this island can do swimming and diving,
while seeing the beautiful coral reefs with colorful
sea fishes.
In addition, the island is also keeps some mysteries
about the sinking of ship relics from World War 2.
There are at least seven ships were sunk in the area
of the island. Among them is the Maru ship (a
Japanese warships that were sunk at a depth of 30
meters), Lancaster Bomber Ship, Hakko Maru Cargo
Ship made in the Netherlands and several other
vessels. Currently, these vessels has been
transformed into a reef and become a home to
hundreds of marine life. The tourists are usually
come to the island to swim amongst the wrecking
ships. 
In the area of this island there are several food stalls
that offer a wide variety of seafood, it taste fresh and
delicious to be enjoyed with family or friends.
Mushala and public toilets are also available here.
Besides, the diving equipment and rental services for
snorkeling is also available here.

Balla Lompoa Museum, the word Balla itself in


Makassar, means a big house. This museum building
is a reconstruction of the Gowa Royal Palace which
was previously established during the reign of the 31st
King of Gowa named Mangngi-mangngi Daeng
Matutu in 1936. From 1978 to 1980, this museum was
in history for restoration which was finally
inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Haryati Subadio as Director
General of Culture.
Great collections:

-a crown that looks like five lotus petals and weighs about
1.768 grams and is also studded with 250 gems and
diamonds.
-tatarapang, gold keris weighing 986.5 grams and 51 cm
long and 13 cm wide.
-10 spears, 7 lontas manuscripts and two handwritten qur’an
in 1848.
-a horse-tailed rattan spear called the panyanggaya
barangan.
-the golden dragon-headed bracelet called the Ponto janga.
-necklaces called kolara, earrings made of pure gold and
gold buttons called gaukang buttons.
LOSARI BEACH
Location

Losari beach is located in the heart of Makasar city, 


South Sulawesi, precisely in Penghibur Street. The street is
in the west side of Makasar city.

Facility and Accommodation

There are many public transportation available here, such


as pedicab, taxi, bus, and so on. Those means of
transportations can be used to go around the beach. There
are many hotels accommodation available here too from
various classes, from guest house to starry hotel. Hospital,
restaurants, café, food eatery, gold craft and souvenirs It
are also available here. Some recommended hotels near
Losari beach are Aryaduta Makassar Hotel and 
Makassar Golden Hotel.
in south Sulawesi, Losari beach is the icon of Makassar
city. It used to title as the beach with longest desk in
Indonesia, probably the world. It happened because there
are many food stalls were line up along the beach shore.
But now, those eatery places had been relocated into
nearby place, not far from Losari beach. This step was
taken by the local government so the beach will stay
comfortable and clean.

There’s uniqueness and specialty from losari beach,


which is tourist who come to visit it, will be able to see
sunrise and sunset. While waiting for it, tourist can try
many Makassar traditional food, such as palu butung,
pisang epe, sop konro, coto makasar, and many more.

It is one of tourist attraction in Makassar where people can enjoy water

Gowa Discovery Park is one of holiday destination in Makassar. It’s a theme


park serving the visitors with many facilities like waterboom, zoo, bird park,
and tree top. Discovery park also provides other facilities like parking area,

souvenir shop.

Fort Somba Opu
&
Akkarena Beach
FORT SOMBA OPU
Fort Somba Opu was a fortified commercial center. It is located in Makassar,
South Sulawesi, Indonesia. The fort was the center of the Gowa Sultanate in
the 16th-century until its destruction by the Dutch East India Company in
1669.

Fort Somba Opu were built to prepare Makassar against the expected Dutch
attack in 1615. Somba Opu was the commercial capital of Makassar, while
the old Gowa was a ceremonial center for inaugurations or burials. In the
1630s, kings and nobles established their residence in Somba Opu, staying in
a house built on thick pillars.

According to Dutch maps drawn on a model from the 1630s, a number of


detached houses were located in the rear (east) and northern side of the fort.
They were grouped around the royal complex in the southwest side of
Somba Opu, which consisted of two enormous wooden palaces, storehouses,
and a mosque. Outside Somba Opu fort were two major markets each to the
north and south, and houses of the commoners.
AKKARENA BEACH
Akkarena beach is located at the coastal side of the city of Makassar, more
precisely in front of Makassar Mall GTC, just about 10 minutes drive from the
city center by private vehicle. Akkarena beach is a stunning black sand beach and
is a a great choice for hanging out with family. It offers a variety of means to
relax and play for grown-ups and kids.

Akkarena beach not only offers beautiful beaches, but it also offers a variety of
facilities, including playgrounds (with seesaw, swings and sliding boards),
restaurants and a park.This park is called Akkarena Tanjung Bunga, which was
built in an area of 12 hectares and is usually open from 7:00 am until midnight.
In the park restaurants and warungs serve local and international food and drinks
and live music is performed here in the evening.You can do various water sports
and various games such as banana boat, jet sky, and drive ATV bike, but you can
also just relax, enjoy the breeze and the beautiful Akkarena beach.
