QUESTION: What information do you already know about the Constitutional Convention?

CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION: AMENDING THE ARTICLES CREATED: CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES

Date: May 14-September 17 -1787 Place: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

WHAT HAPPENED: Delegates met: FEDERALIST AND ANTI- FEDERALIST discuss NEW AMERICA, AMEND the
Articles of Confederation (lacked power to impose tax, lacked efficient central government, national
currency, slavery issues) and eventually they CREATED CONSTITUTION!

WHY: Economic trouble (trade relations, environment) caused Rebellions ex: Shays Rebellion

MAJOR ISSUES DISCUSSED: The major debates were over representation in Congress, the powers
of the president, how to elect the president (Electoral College), slave trade, and a bill of rights.

BILL OF RIGHTS: Civil and Individual rights to citizens..WELL KNOWN!! FREEDOM OF SPEECH, PRESS,
RELIGION

forcing them into their own navy, was not a greatly supported war
