DIVERSITY OF LEARNERS

Differences in the learner’s

1.

gender, strengths, needs,

interests and experiences.
COMMON GENDER DIFFERENCES
• Brain develops differently among boys and girls.
• Areas of the brain mature differently.
• They have different way in responding to stress.
• Girls tend to be more emotional than boys.
• Girls prefer cooperation, open-ended and
organized activities while boys prefer
competition and individualism.
• Gender may also affect the learners needs,
experience, interest, strengths and weaknesses.
GENDER DIFFERENCES
Disclaimer!!!
Gender will not generally dictate the interest,
behavior and the learning style of the learner but
it should be carefully considered. It is important
that teachers should not generalize what boys
and girls think , what they like and they can do.
Thinking Cap

promote gender equality in your
classroom, in preparing your
modules, LAS and assessments.

Count the number of V, A and K that you

answered. What type of learner are you, visual,
auditory or kinesthetic?

How would you like your teacher to teach you

when you are visual, auditory or kinesthetic?

Why is it important to understand
learners diversity?
1. It will help the teacher to carefully plan for lessons,
activities, tasks which is tailored to the uniqueness of
the learners.
2. It will help the teacher determine appropriate holistic
teaching strategies.
3. It will help address struggling and challenged
learners.
4. It will help avoid possible drop outs.
5. It will help the teacher and learners create an
inclusive classroom that promotes and celebrates
diversity and value individual’s beauty and purpose.
Benefits of Learners Diversity

1. Learner’s self-awareness is enhanced

2. Students learn from other perspective not only
from the teacher
3. Learners diversity prepares them for their role
as responsible members of society
4. Learners diversity promotes harmony
OUTPUT/REFLECTION

among your learners?
5. How would you promote diversity in planning
your assessments?
ifferent Diversity in the classroom is
ndividual not finding each others
differences but a celebration of
aluing each learner’s uniqueness and
