5.1.1 Leadership and commitment - General
• An organisation’s top management must demonstrate leadership and commitment
regarding its IMS by:
• taking accountability for the effectiveness of the IMS
• ensuring that the IMS policy and IMS objectives established for the IMS are
compatible with the context and strategic direction of the organisation
• ensuring the integration of the IMS requirements into your business processes
• promoting the use of process approach and risk-based thinking
• ensuring availability of the resources needed for the IMS
• communicating the importance of effective integrated management and of
conforming to the IMS requirements
• ensuring that the IMS achieves its intended results
• engaging, directing and supporting persons to contribute to the effectiveness of
the IMS
• promoting improvement

• supporting other relevant management roles to demonstrate their leadership as
it applies to their areas of responsibility
5.1.2 Leadership and
commitment - Customer focus
• Top management must demonstrate leadership and
commitment with respect to customer focus by ensuring
that:
• customer and applicable statutory and regulatory
requirements are determined, understood and
consistently met
• the risks and opportunities that can affect conformity of
products and services and the ability to enhance
customer satisfaction are determined and addressed
• the focus on enhancing customer satisfaction is
maintained

5.2.1 Policy - Establishing the IMS policy
• Top management must establish, implement and maintain a IMS policy
that:
• is appropriate to the purpose and context of the organisation and
supports its strategic direction
• provides a framework for setting IMS objectives
• includes a commitment to satisfy applicable requirements
• includes a commitment to continual improvement of the integrated
management system

• An example IMS policy might be (for more just Google ‘example IMS
policy’):

"We will become a Total Quality Company by continuously improving all our
work processes to satisfy our internal and external customers."

5.2.2 Policy - Communicating the IMS policy

• The IMS policy must:


• be available and be maintained as
documented information
• be communicated, understood and
applied within the organisation
• be available to relevant interested
parties, as appropriate

5.3 organisational roles, responsibilities and authorities

• Top management must assign the responsibility and authority for:

• ensuring that the integrated management system conforms to the


requirements of 9001/ 14001 / 45001

• ensuring that the processes are delivering their intended outputs

• reporting (in particular to themselves) on the performance of the IMS and


opportunities for improvement

• ensuring the promotion of customer focus throughout the organisation

• ensuring that the integrity of the IMS is maintained when changes to the
IMS are planned and implemented

• Note: Top management must also ensure that the responsibilities and authorities
for relevant roles are communicated and understood throughout the organisation.

5.4 Consultation & Participation
of workers

• The organization shall establish, implement and


maintain a process(es) for consultation and 619
participation of workers at all applicable levels
and functions, and where they exist, workers
representatives in the development, planning,
implementation, performance evaluation and
actions for improvement of the OH&S
management system.

• Complying with legislative and regulatory requirements.

• Institutionalizing effective and efficient waste management system by reduction, recycling and reuse techniques.

• Avoiding, reducing and controlling pollution.

• Reducing natural resource depletion whenever possible.

• Preventing accidents related to men, materials and machines.

• Promoting awareness among our employees, sub-contractors and customers for enhancing the well being of our
personnel and the betterment of the environment.

• This policy is communicated to all staff(s) and will be reviewed every year by the top Management
