How did the rapid technological developments

revolutionize education during COVID-19
pandemic?
 Introduction
Universities and college campuses are
places where students live and study in
close proximity to each other. They are
also buzzing cultural hubs where
students are brought together from
nations around the world. Recently, the
foundations of this unique ecosystem
have been impacted significantly by the
rapid spread of the coronavirus (Covid-
19) outbreak, creating uncertainty
regarding the implications for all kind
of education.
 Technology in education

We’ve seen our society advance at unprecedented rates in the

technological space. Just looking back on recent years with the
introduction of internet access, mobile phones, then the boom of
smartphones, it’s not surprising that the use of technology for education
purposes has also been introduced .To adapt to our modern digital habits,
it only makes sense that we incorporate technology in education. Beyond
adaptation, however, we actually know that, when used properly,
technology in education can actually result in better learning.
 Technological developments in education during covid-19
When the Covid-19 pandemic swept across the world in 2020, schools closed
and education was moved to students’ homes. Consequently, many countries
faced the challenge of an unanticipated and accelerated move to online
learning. This represents a crucial time to consider technology, pedagogy and
education. Digital technology played a significant role in enabling teachers to
teach students at a distance using tools that enabled both synchronous and
asynchronous communication with whole class, groups and individual children
or young people; access to learning materials; and interactive and collaborative
activities. This special issue examines how jurisdictions worldwide responded,
the emerging opportunities and considerations; and what we can learn moving
forward for the contemporary role of technology in education in times of crisis.
 The benefits of technology in education

Technology is a powerful tool that can support and transform

education in many ways, from making it easier for teachers to create
instructional materials to enabling new ways for people to learn and
work together. With the worldwide reach of the Internet and the
ubiquity of smart devices that can connect to it, a new age of anytime
anywhere education is dawning. It will be up to instructional
designers and educational technologies to make the most of the
opportunities provided by technology to change education so that
effective and efficient education is available to everyone everywhere.
