F. Motivation Let the students watch a video clip about an argumentative speech with a topic intitled, “Is social media
becoming more important than face to face communication among teens”?
TV Segment in PTV.
Ask the students about their reflection based on the video, allow everybody to share her/his ideas.
QUESTIONS:
a. What do you think is more effective in communication, is it face to face or through
online?
b. How effective is the communication using face to face compared to online?
c. What are the differences and similarities of argumentative speech and argumentative
writing?
d. What do you think is an argumentative essay?

a) Activity A. Let the students answer the pre-test in SLM in English 10 Quarter3
Module 1 pages 1-3, using a ¼ sheet of paper.
Students will read the two selections intitled “Aggressive Driving
Should be Avoided” and “Fighting Hunger.”
After each reading, they will determine the parts of the essay, the
Introduction, Body, and Conclusion.

B. Activity 1A: Listen Up, Yo!


The students will listen to a song entitled “Common Ground” by Kodaline, and they will
answer the following questions using their English notebook.

C.Students will read the two selections intitled “Aggressive Driving Should be
Avoided” and “Fighting Hunger.”
After each reading, they will determine the parts of the essay, the Introduction, Body,
and Conclusion

b. Analysis Ask the students about their idea on what is argumentative essay, parts of argumentative essay and the
differences and similarities of an argumentative essay to argumentative speech.

Discuss to the students the definition of an argumentative essay.

applying the characteristics of a correct argumentative essay, create a one paragraph reflection paper
about his/her output using a ½ sheet of paper.
