CONSTRUCTION &
MAINTENANCE
CONSTRUCTION & MAINTENANCE SPECIFICATIONS
The construction and maintenance methodologies are regulated by
INVIAS.

INVIAS offers a package of manuals that are available on internet.

The manual was updated in 2007 and it is based on important

international standards:

Its content is composed of 249 test standards and 95 construction

specifications.

Classification of roads based on Traffic volume to determine: i) Materials

Quality, ii) In site equipment, iii) Construction methodologies and iv) Construction
quality.

Application of statistics to establish the acceptance of pavement structure and

resistance of mixtures.

Strict control over the IRI and the Skid resistance.

CONSTRUCTION SCHEME
MAINTENANCE SCHEME
CURRENT MAINTENANCE METHODOLOGY

Identification of defects by means of Visual Inspections

 Network in Charge of INVIAS (Public Procurement)

- Visual Inspections in charge of Road administrators.
- Work Interventions are determined by INVIAS and construction firms are
hired by tender processes to execute the maintenance works.

 Network in charge of INCO (Concessions)

Concessionaires are demanded to carry out the visual inspections and to
execute the maintenance works considering the INVIAS standards.

- Cracking - Rutting
- Ravelling - Potholing
- Roughness - Edge break
- Surface Texture - Skid resistance
PLANNED MAINTENANCE METHODOLOGY

• Both INVIAS and INCO are structuring a tender process to analyze maintenance
strategies for different roads networks by means of the application of an
specialized software package such as HDM4 to determine:

 Budget allocation based on

economical and physical benefits.

 Application of Cost – Benefit

Analysis.

 Multi-year work programme

 Project priorization

 Type of maintenance to apply
