TIMBER CEILING TYPES AND BUILT IN

FUTURE
TYPES OF TIMBER USED FOR CEILING FRAME

 Western Red Cedar

  Alaskan Yellow Cedar
  California Redwood
 Douglas Fir / Larch
 Ponderosa Pine
  Hemlock
REASONS FOR PROVIDING CEILINGS FOR SLOPED ROOF

 To reduce the heat transfer from the roof

 To improve the apperance of rooms under the
sloped roof
 To conceal all the ducts, pipes, wiring and light
fitting for the room.
WESTERN RED CEDAR CEILING

 It tends to dampen sound transmision.

 with low sensity and high propotion of airspaces it is a good thermal
insulator which keeps buildings cool in summer and reduce heating cost
in winter.
 ,Western Red Cedar is hygroscopic and will absorb
or discharge moisture to attain equilibrium with
the surrounding atmosphere
Lightest commercial softwood.
HEMLOCK CEILING
 It has good acoustic property
 Hemlock contains no pitch.
 Resistant to splitting and splintering
 Hemlock finish is easy to cut, rip, mill and sand
It is highly workable.
ALASKAN YELLOW CEDAR CEILING

 It is durable and a good decay resistance.

  Resists weather, rot, termites and corrosion from
acid solutions.
 Has excellent nail-holding ability.
  Dense and tough, it is highly resistant to wear.
CALIFORNIA RED WOOD CEILING

 Durability: Redwood is rated as resistant to very resistant

to heartwood decay.
 Finishing: Redwood is moderately resistant to
preservative treatments.
 Stability: High dimensional stability
 Workability: Redwood works easily with both hand and
machine tools, with little dulling effect on tools.
DOUGLAS FIR CEILING
 Stability: Cedar is the most stable softwood
species
 Workability: Easy to cut, saw, nail and glue
 Durability: Rated as moderately resistant to
decay.
 Finishing: Paints, stains, varnishes, oils and
waxes all work well.
PONDEROSA PINE CEILING
 Stability:Ponderosa is relatively unaffected by changes
in humidity after drying, making it valuable for work
that requires close-fitting joints.
 It has a uniform cell structure and shrinks only a
moderate amount, in comparison to other softwood
species
 Workability: Easy to cut, saw, nail and glue
TIMBER CEILINGS BUILT IN FUTURE

 Lightweight – Up to 75% weight savings in certain

applications
 Aesthetic natural timber look and texture
 Panel lengths have random grain texture
 Significant savings in material and installation costs
 Wide colour range & minimum colour fading
