Introduction
Porous concrete also known as Pervious, Permeable or No-Fines
concrete.

It is the mixture of Binding material, course aggregate, admixtures

and water.

It do not contains fine aggregate in the mixture.

Its approximate void ratio ranges from 15%-35%.

Introduction
It has lower compressive strength and lower unit weight as compared
to conventional concrete.
Mechanical Properties

Performance of concrete is evaluated from mechanical properties

including compressive strength.

 The experimental results shows that the compressive strengths of

porous concrete varies from 600 to 1,500 psi (4.1–10.3 MPa) for 28
days.
Applications
Porous concrete is used in low traffic volumes and loads due to its lower
compressive strength.

Wastewater treatment plant beds, beach structures and seawalls can be

constructed by porous concrete.
Parking lots, driveways, sidewalks, residential streets, tennis courts, and
swimming pool decks can be made of porous concrete in order to save rain water.
Porous concrete can be used in bridge embankments.
Advancements in Porous Concrete

 The recent advancement in pervious concrete is the use of

“Superplasticizers”.

 It reduces the w/c ratio.

 It improves the workability and strength of concrete.

 The use of superplasticizers is defined in ASTM C494.

Specific Objectives
To propose the optimum amount of super-plasticizer to improve the
workability of porous concrete.

To achieve the maximum compressive strength by reducing w/c ratio.

Comparison of compressive strength of conventional and pervious

concrete for 7days,14days and 28 days by using concrete cubes
according to ASTM standards.
Specific Objectives (conti…)

Comparison of compressive strength of pervious concrete with

Superplasticizer and pervious concrete without Superplasticizer for
7days,14days and 28 days by using concrete cubes according to
ASTM standards.
