 INTRODUCTION TO SHEEP FOOT
ROLLER

 DEFINATION OF SHEEP FOOT ROLLER :-
The ship foot roller consist of a hollow drum

with a large number of small projection on its

surface.
 These projections penetrate the soil layers during the
rolling operations and it causes to compaction.
 The drum can be filled with water to increase the mass.
 The sheep foot rollers are ideally suited for compaction
of cohesive soils.

COMPACTING COHESIVE SOILS.(CLAYS)
 THE COVERAGE AREA IS 8 TO 10%.

 IT IS HAVING DRUM WITH METAL KNOBS

CALLED FEET.
 WEIGHT OF DRUM IS ABOUT 1.5 TO 10 TONNE.

sheep foot roller

 Sheep foot rollers are used for compaction of soils in
dams, embankments, subgrade layers in pavements
and rail road construction projects.
 Silty soil can be easily compacted by this roller.
 Sheepsfoot rollers are of static and vibratory types.
 Travel at a speed of 25 kmph.
 with repeated passages of roller, the penetration of
feet decreses.
 
