Port numbering

The port markings consist out of 1 or 2 digits. Circuit number 2 of the

The first digit indicates the function of the port . four way safety valve
The second digit is the number of the circuits.

compresso
r

The function of the compressor is to supply the pneumatic

system with compressed air.

Terberg makes use of the compressor with the highest

capacity available for the involved engine type.
Single room air
dryer

The function of the air dryer is the removal of vapor

and residual oil from the incoming air. The vapor and
oil must be removed to prevent:
> Corrosion inside the system
> Freezing of the air lines
> dissolving of the rubber seals used in the
various air valves

The air dryer has an internal unloader to regulate the

pressure and regenerate the dryer and regulate the
pressure.

Double room air dryer

> Optional
> Internal unloader
> There is always one chamber regenerated and one
chamber active drying
> When the compressor hasn't enough capacity to reach
the cut-out pressure during operation, a single room air
dryer will not be regenerated, a double room air dryer is
recommended.
4-circuit safety valve

> The four-circuit protection valves is used in multi-circuit

braking systems with circuits 1 and 2 for dual-circuit
service braking system and circuits 3 and 4 for
accessories.

> The function is to supply compressed air all the circuits,

while the circuits stay independent from each other.

> In case of circuit failure, the faulty circuit will lose his
pressure, whereas compressed air continues to be
supplied to the remaining circuits up to the level of the
opening pressure in the faulty circuit.
Foot brake
valve

The purpose of the food brake valve is

sensitive, gradable pressurization or
de-pressurization of the tractor’s
service brakes.
Parking brake valve

The functions of the parking brake valve:

> Pressurizes the parking brake circuit in
“drive” mode
> depressurizes the parking brake
circuit when in “parking” mode

1 = supply from the parking brake circuit

22 = to trailer control valve port 43

21 = to port 4 of the relay valve

Relay
valve

The function of the relay valve:

To rapidly increase or decrease the pressure of compressed air equipment and
to shorten the response time for pressure build-up in air brakes systems.
Two-way
valve

The two-way valve can accept signal pressure

from two separate sources, the higher pressure
will be delivered and the lower pressure will be
isolated.

The two-way valve is used as an anti-

compounding device for tractors equipped with
spring brakes actuators.
Chassis leveling
valve

The chassis levelling valve is fitted on tractors with air

suspension. The purpose of the valve is to ensure that
the air bellows maintain a constant height, irrespective
of the tractor’s load.
Optional: down control
Load sensing
valve

The load sensing valve have the task to adjust the

brake pressure to the rear axle as a function of the axle
loading.
This prevents the wheels from locking up while braking.
Brake
cylinder

When the brake cylinders are pressure less, When the brake cylinders are pressurized , the
the brakes are nor applied. brakes are applied.
The spring retracts the brake cylinder piston The brake cylinder piston moves outwards against
the spring load

OPTION: Trailer control
valve

The function of the trailer control valve is to

control the trailer’s twin-line braking system together
with the dual-circuit brake valve and the handbrake valve
for the (spring) brake actuators

If a line ruptures, or the trailer control line has not been connected, actuation of the brake
valve on the tractor will cause a reduction of the air supply from the tractor to the trailer and
a simultaneous pressure reduction in the trailer’s supply line. This process causes
immediate automatic braking of the trailer.

> 41,42 and 43 are command lines.

> 11 is a supply line inlet.
> 12 is a supply line to the trailer.
> 22 is a braking line to the trailer.

Initial charging / System park

Tractor + Trailer normal operation
Trailer charged, tractor parked
Trailer parked, tractor released

> Port 11 & 12 is feed from the front and rear brake circuit
> The highest pressure of the 2 brake circuits is feeding the trailer charge and park valve
> Port 21 is feed to the trailer brakes
> Port 22 is feed to the tractor parking brakes
> Port 21 & 22 can be vented over port 3 to activate tractor or trailer spring brakes
OPTION US: - Tractor Protection Valve

> Port 11 & 12 is feed from the front and rear brake circuit
> The highest pressure of the 2 brake circuits feeds port 22
> Port 14 is feed from the control module for trailer charge and feeds port 21 and opens port 22 via the main plunger
> Port 21 is trailer brake feed line
> Port 22 is trailer brake command line

> Air returning from the trailer command line port 22 can leave via port 12 and vent via the foot brake valve
> A low pressure in the trailer feed line port 21 will cause that the main plunger closes supply from the tractor side
