ABSTRACT
These project includes design and analysis of monolithic dome having a
substructure of auditorium. They are designed for uniform loading over the
plates. In this study by applying point loads over the nodal joints analysis
and design of concrete dome structure will be done using STAAD.pro.
This project is a virtual project meaning that no actual or practical tests are
supposed to be done for completion of this project. The project is initiated
with the collection of information from existing journals, papers called
literature review. After collecting the relevant information the project is
started. Dead load and live load are assigned as the plate load. The safe
loads are found from the design results against various loading cases. Axial
forces, bending moment, nodal joint load are to be designed by using
staadpro.
INTRODUCTION
 Monolithic dome  (from Greek mono- and -lithic, meaning "one stone") is a
structure cast in a one-piece form.
 Dome structures made of various materials have a long architectural lineage
extending into prehistory.
 Domes can be design to fit any architectural homes, cabins, churches,
school, gymnasiums, arenas, stadium bulk, auditorium, landlord dwelling
and other various privately and publicly owned facilities
 The compression stresses in domes are small so that, particularly with the
high- strength concretes .
 Domes are usually spherical and are essentially surfaces of revolution about
a vertical axis.

OBJECTIVES
 1. The main objective of this project is to study analysis and design of
Monolithic Concrete Dome using Staad pro with substructure of an auditorium
 2. To study the design of structural elements of a dome structure such as shell
structure, ring beam, column and footing.
 3. To analyze the the structure for carrying the various load like dead load live
load wind load and seismic load
 4. To design the structure according to Indian standards codal provisions.
Following IS code will be used for designing RCC structure.
1. IS 456-200
2. IS 1893-2002/2005
3. IS 875-1987
NEED OF THE STUDY
 It is essential to design urban life spaces in accordance’s to the
needs of modern time
 This study will be useful where the need for low cost housing in
India is large and huge percentage of population is still lingering
under poverty.
 Monolithic concrete domes can serve as the safest structures in
areas prone to Tornadoes and Earthquakes.
 Hence, this research is aimed to study the response of a dome
structure using Staad pro V8.
LIMITAION OF STUDY
 The location of every structure is different so the wind speed &
seismic values varies according to locations.
 This results in different value in load calculation.
ADVANTAGES OF MONOLITHIC DOME
STRUCTURE
 Cost of a dome is less.
 Required less maintenance.
 Circulation of air and heat is very good, to
climate these structure are very cold.
 Protects from fire.
 Survives from earthquakes, tornadoes,
hurricanes.
DISADVANTAGES OF MONOLITHIC DOME
STRUCTURE
 Wasted space in narrow corners
 Building permits may be difficult to obtain if
local officials are not familiar with the
monolithic dome.

METHODOLOGY
 The attempt has been made to study the analysis of dome structures in terms of
both strength and stiffness, subjecting it to loading cases and to analyze the
failure patterns.
 Models in analytical method are analyzed by using the software Staadpro v8i.
 STAADPRO is based on the gravity method using rigid body equilibrium and
beam theory to perform stress analyses, compute crack lengths, and safety
factors.
 Results are compared against the design strengths calculated in accordance with
the Indian codes for special structures.
 The auditorium is designed using dome structure.
 All the members are designed as simply supported member with the column
fixed.
