IIT Hyderabad's Earthquake-

Resistant Campus
Vishal kumar
IIT Hyderabad
IIT Hyderabad is located in Kandi Village, Telangana, India.

It was established in 2008 and covers 570 acres.

It is designed by Vastushilpa Consultants and constructed by

Larsen & Toubro Limited.

It has earthquake-resistant design and incorporates sustainable

features such as rainwater harvesting, solar power and energy-
efficient lighting & ventilation.

It has green spaces and landscaped areas to enhance the

environment.
Design Features
The IIT Hyderabad campus has several design features that make it earthquake-resistant.

Base isolation with Reinforced Seismic-resistant

rubber or other concrete for design with shear
materials to reduce strength and walls and cross-
seismic impact durability bracing

Mass dampers to
Soil investigation
counteract sway

waves, wind, etc.
IIT Hyderabad uses a base isolation technology called
"friction pendulum system".

It has been used in the IIT Hyderabad campus.

The system consists of a pendulum attached to the

building's foundation and placed on a sliding surface.

Base isolation This pendulum can move freely during an earthquake,

reducing the seismic energy transferred to the building.

The friction pendulum system is a highly effective form of

base isolation technology.

It has been successfully used in a variety of buildings and

structures around the world.

It provides excellent seismic protection without requiring

external energy sources.
