Introduction

Location
• The area is an archipelago of 33 islands and is located in the Persian Gulf
between Saudi Arabia, Qatar and is 124 miles south of Iran.
• The country is around 720 Km2
• 24 km causeway connects it to the Arabian Peninsula
History
• Bahrain was ruled by Persians
• 1783, the Al Khalifa invaded them
• Monarchy system and the current ruler is Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.
• 14 August 1971 gained full independence
• 1932 was changing point when it was the first gulf country that discovered oil
(BAPCO)
Population
• In 2020 the population is 1.7 million and 52.6% of them are expats.
• Population density is 2239 people per Km2

Language
• National language is Arabic
• English is also common and a mandatory second language in their education.
• Among the non-Bahraini population, Farsi and Urdu is common

Currency
• Second strongest currency in world.
• Bahraini dinar (BHD) = 2.65 USD, 9.74 AED and 194.34 INR
GDP
• 36 Billion USD in 2020 and was -.7% down due
to covid (from 38.57 billion to 36 billion).
• In 2019 Non-oil sector recorded solid growth
of 1.7%. The fastest growing sector was the
Hotels and Restaurants sector with an annual
growth of 6.8% in 2019.

Lifestyle/Living Standard
• Bahrain safety index is 74.51 which makes put in top 15 safest countries.
• Education in public school is free. Adult literacy rate for 2018 was 97.46%
• Health insurance is compulsory for citizens, residents and visitors from 2019
• 5% VAT from 1 January 2019.
Culture

• Bahrain is cosmopolitan with an Islamic heritage.


• 70% Shi'a Muslim and 30% Sunni Muslim.
• They also have churches, temples, and synagogues.
• No dress code, but many dress modestly and locals wear thobes or abayas.
• The climate in Bahrain is moderate winters with long and heated summer.
