POSTER DEVELOPMENT

ORIGINAL IDEA
Our main idea for our film poster will be to have the main
picture and background to be of a newspaper article or lonely
hearts page. This will immediately connote the theme of dating
and love with an essence of comedy. This is mainly due to the
fact that some people see it as a last resort to advertise for a
partner in a newspaper or magazine. The masthead will be
placed in the centre of the page and will, hopefully, be the first
thing that the viewer notices about the page. Also on the page
will be a mug, colour not certain yet, a red sharpie pen and a
red circle, highlighting a potential date. We will mainly be using
red and black as staple font colours across the page as this will
be very cohesive with the colours already on the page.
Hopefully we will be able to find a font for the film title that will
promote the comedy nature also, we will attempt to keep the
colours as vibrant as possible.
ORIGINAL IMAGES AND
PROGRESS
This is a selection of some of
the images that we took. We
found a really clear lonely
hearts page and then carefully
positioned both the red circle,
mug and pen on the page.
We were initially worried
with the lighting of these
images, however after further
viewing, we realised that they
actually looked really
effective, and with some
editing could help us to create
a very professional poster.
PROGRESS
• To begin with, we adjusted the 1.
saturation, exposure and gamma to
slightly darken the image. Then we
increased the lightness of the page to
give the slightly faded effect you can
see now. Before this, we used the
magnetic lasso tool to outline the
sharpie pen, red circle and mug and
increased the saturation of these to
make them appear a lot more vibrant
and clear.
• The font for the masthead was
obtained from the website
www.dafont.com. We positioned the
masthead right in the centre of the
page with a very vibrant red to attract
the viewers attention. Various blending
options were also utilised, such as a
drop shadow. This emphasized the text
against the page effectively making it
appear slightly 3D.
• Finally, we positioned the credits on
to the front of the mug itself and used
the warp tool to make the text appear
as if it was already printed on the mug.
I then simply added small magazine
quotes and a certificate rating along
with a tagline for the film to complete
PROGRESS
• Brightness, contrast and saturation was
greatly increased here to enhance the
entire page. One thing that was kept was
the size of the image. We wanted to
make sure that the image itself bled to all
corners of the page as it would make the
page appear more vibrant and
interesting. Specific attention was paid,
once again to the red circle, red pen and
mug.
• We found a different font names Kaileen
on www.dafont.com and placed it in the
centre with a vibrant red and enhanced
by drop shadows and outlines to define
the text. It was really important that the
title was noticeable as we understood
that the colours on the rest of the poster
could potentially outshine it. The font
connotes a feeling of light-heartedness
and comedy along with the bright colours
representing a very positive ambience.
• Finally, we placed the magazine quotes
at the bottom of the page with the
certificate in the bottom left of the page.
Generally, we feel that we have met the
main forms and conventions of any other
film poster successfully.

FINAL CHOICE
Collectively, our audience decided that this was the preferred poster layout. The vibrancy
of the colours on the page along with the interesting font of the masthead really draws
their attention and they really liked the decision to place the credits on the front of the
mug as it allowed them to view the whole page. This is definitely our most likely option for
our film poster at this time.
