What is function?
Function:
Let a consider two elements A and B non
empty set if following condition hold then it
called a function.
1) F is relation from A to B i.e F is subset of
A x B show Cartesian product.
2) Domain F = A

Then F is called a function from A to B and
written As.
F:A B denoted Y = f(x)
Binary Relation
A and B non empty set then any subset
of Cartesian product AxB is called
binary relation or simply relation form A
To B.
Example:
Let A = {1,2} , B = {a,b}
AxB = {(1,a)(1,b)(2,a)(2,b)} then
R = {(1,a)(2,b)} is called binary relation
From A to B.

Range R :
Set of second elements of ordered pair in R
i.e {a,b}
Discuss an Example:
Let A ={a,b,c} , B = {1,2,3}
Then F is a relation A to B AxB={(a,1)
(a,2)(a,3)…….(c,1)(c,2)(c,3)} F={(a,1)
(b,2)(c,3)}

function if different elements of A
has differens images in B.
Bijective Function
Function f which both one-one and onto
function is called bijective function.

Injective Function
Function f which is both one-one and

Linear Function
Linear Function
The function f {(x,y)|y=mx+c} is called
linear function. Where
y=mx+c is straight line.
Quadratic Function
The function f {(x,y)|y=ax2+bx+c} is
called quadratic function.
Inverse Function
If function given in tabuler form
then inverse functionis obtained by
interchange the components of
each other.
i.e f= {(1,2)(3,4)}
f-1={(2,1)(4,3)}
Identity Function
Identity Function
The function f={(x,y)|y=x} is called identity
function.
Square Root
Function
The function defined by the y= √x : x>0 is
called square root function.
