Area of Composite

Figures
OBJECTIVES :
a) Define the area of composite figures.

b) Solve routine and non-routine problem involving area of

composite figures formed by any two or more of the
following figures:
Triangle, Square, Rectangle and Circle
Recall:
What are the formula in solving the area of plane figures, involving Triangle, Square,
Rectangle and Circle?
Formula:
Triangle : A = ½ x b x h Square: A = (s)(s)
Ex. Soln. Ex. Soln.
A = ½ x b x h A = (s)(s) 3m
= ½ x 6cm x 4cm = (3m)(3m)
= ½ x 24 cm squared A = 9m squared
4cm
A = 12 cm squared.
6cm
•Rectangle:
  A= LxW Circle:

Soln. Soln.
A= l x w A=
= (3cm)(6cm) = (3.14)(5inch)(5inch)
A = 18cm squared. = (3.14)(25inch squared)
A = 78.5inch squared.

Discussion:
Okay class, This morning, we are going to discuss about on how to solve the area
of a composite figure, but before that what do you mean by composite figure?
Composite Figure or composite shape are figures that consists of two or more
geometric shapes, such as Triangle, Square, Rectangle and Circle.
Like for example.
b
a
Example on how to solve the area of composite figures;
The first thing you need to do, in order to solve the area of composite figure is to
divide or separate this into basic shape. Now that we have separated them the next
thing that you need to do is to get the area of each shape.
