Mission Statement

  HOW MUCH REDUCTION IN DISEASE CAN I EXPECT FROM SELECTING AN

IMMUNITY+ EVERGREEN SIRE?
 It varies by trait, but selecting Immunity+ sires should lead to anywhere from
5-10% reduction in disease in just one generation. More generations of
selection will continue to decrease disease frequency even further.
 THE EVERGREEN SEMEN PRODUCTION UNIT AIMS AT ACHIEVING THE FOLLOWING
OBJECTIVES:
 TO PRODUCE TOP QUALITY FROZEN SEMEN FROM HIGH PEDIGREE BULLS OF
CATTLE AND BUFFALO BREEDS USING STATE-OF-THE-ART FACILITIES FOR SEMEN
COLLECTION, PROCESSING AND CRYO-PRESERVATION.
 TO IMPROVE THE MILK PRODUCTION OF LOCAL CATTLE AND BUFFALO THROUGH
GENETIC IMPROVEMENT TO ENHANCE THE PROSPERITY OF FARMERS.
1. Semen Station
 The semen station maintains 30 high pedigree bulls of Murrah
buffalo and Indigenous breeds of cattle. There are two bull
sheds provided with loafing area, fans & water sprinkles and
an efficient semen collection shed. All bulls maintained by
the centre are high pedigreed and have been karyotyped and
are free from genetic disordersAll bulls are vaccinated
regularly against FMD, HS & BQ and Theileriosis. They are
regularly tested and are free from sexually transmitted
infectious diseases, such as Brucellosis, Johne’s disease, IBR,
Trichomoniasis and Campylobacteriosis. There is an isolation
shed (to separately house any bull/bull calves suspected for
disease) with a capacity to house 2 bulls away from the main
herd.

 There is also a quarantine station located at…………. The bulls

are kept here for 2 months and tested for major diseases like
Tuberculosis, Johnin’s Disease, Brucellosis, IBR, etc before
they are inducted to the rearing station and main herd of
Semen Station. This has a capacity to house about 2 animals
2. Semen Processing Laboratory

 Semen processing laboratory has facilities for processing quality semen and is
equipped with automatic semen filling- sealing machine, Ink Jet printer,
biological freezer and large tanks for storage of frozen semen doses and
Liquid nitrogen. It has potential to process 10 lakhs Frozen Semen Doses per
annum of different breeds of dairy animals.
 A well equipped Semen Quality Control Laboratory is engaged in testing of
Frozen Semen doses for post thaw motility of sperms, sperm morphology,
sperm acrosome integrity, Sperm membrane integrity, sperm incubation,
sperm concentration and bacteriological load of each dose and for quality
evaluation of semen in general.
Fodder Farm

 Fodder Farm consists of 20 acres of cultivable land for growing different fodder
crops like Maize (Zea mays), Oats (Avena sativa), Clover (Trifolium alexandrinum),
Alfa-alfa (Medicago sativa), Sugarbeet (Beta vulgaris), Sorghum (Sorghum bicolour)
etc. to cater to the requirement of good quality roughages of Semen station
herd, round the year.

 Almost all the operations in Fodder Farm like ploughing, seedbed preparation,
fertilizer broadcasting, inter-cultivation, harvesting and chopping of green forage
are mechanised. Whereas, irrigation of fodder crops are done with sprinklers and
reel irrigation system, which helps in economising the use water.

 The operations like animal-dung slurry transportation have been mechanised with
the use of Liquid Manure Spreaders.
Biosecurity of semen station

 The biosecurity and safety inputs used in the semen production operation
have now become the primary concern of both the policy makers and the end
user. Bio-safety guidelines that now monitor the procedures and processes in
the semen production encompass this concern. To protect our valued animals
and quality semen production for confirming to international standard,
EVERGREEN SIRES is strictly adhere and followed biosecurity guidelines as
prescribed by LBSA.
