Step By Step EINC Protocol

Antenatal

1. Atleast 4 Antenatal Visits


1st visit within 3 months
2nd visit at 6 months
3rd visit at 8 months
4rt visit at 9 months
2. Iron and folate Supplementation
(180 tablets)
Introduction:

 ESSENTIAL ITRAPARTUM NEWBORN CARE


(EINC) is described as a “simple cost-effective
newborn care intervention” intended to
enable improved neonatal and maternal care.
By changing childbirth practices, maternal
and newborn deaths can be reduced
significantly.
3. Tetanus Toxoid Vaccine
Prepare Birth Plan
Upon Arrival at Facility

 Identify mothers in PRETERM LABOR or


mothers who might give birth to a
preterm newborn at point of entry
 History, Physical Exam and Vital Signs
 Obtain Birth Plan, Determine
Companion Choice
During Labor

Allow position of choice


Allow mother to have oral fluids and
light snacks
Use Partograph to monitor labor
IV fluid and NPO only when indicated
PRIOR TO DELIVERY

 Check Room temperature-25-28C


 Arrange all instruments in a linear fashion
 Check Resuscitation equipment
Perineal Bulging

 Perform proper handwahing


 Put 2 set of sterile gloves
 No routine episiotomy and Fundal Pressure
From Delivery to the time 6 hours Postpartum Period

Step By Step EINC Protocol


Delivery

MOTHER BABY

 Support the perineum with  Call out time of birth and


controlled delivery of the sex
head  Dry, check breathing
 Assist skin to skin contact
 First 30 seconds  Feel cord pulsation, Clamp,
cut cord
1 minute to 3 minutes

 Do controlled traction of cord with counter-


traction
 Give Oxytocin IM after placental expulsion
 Massage Uterus gently
 Examine the placenta
15-90 minutes

 Support first full breastfeeding


 Continue uterine massage
 Do PE, weigh, measure, eye care, inject, VIT.
K, HepB, and BCG
Transport to Room Together

 After 6 hours
 Breastfeeding Support
 Optional Bathing
 Monitor postpartum period
