1.What are Chameleons?
Chameleons are a spade
of lizards.
Many species have the
ability to change color.
Chameleons are
distingiushed by a lot of
characteristics, including
their independently
mobile eyes.
They usually live in warm
habitats and can be keep
as pets in households.
2.Physical characteristics
Some of the physical characteristics of
chameleons are:
• The species greatly vary in size and
structure
• Certain species have bones that glow
under ultraviolet light.
• Chameleons don’t
have some
important parts of
the ear.
• Their tongue are
typically thought to
be one and a half to
two times their
length.
• They have
specialized feet
which split the feet
into two parts.
3.Distribution and habitats
• They mainly live in the mainland
of sub-Saharan Africa.
• There are a few more species
that live in northern Africa,
southern Europe,…
• Chameleons inhabit all kinds of
tropical and mountain rain
forests and savannahs.
• Many species are threatened by
extinction or habitat loss.
4. Are chameleons good pets?
It depends.
• Since their care requirements
are quite specific and they are
easily stressed, chameleons are
not for the beginner
herpetologist.
• Being territorial and solitary
animals, chameleons should be
kept by themselves.
• But true chameleons which is
known for their ability to
change color, make fascinating
pets for those up to the
challenge.
