Assignment Requirements

• Follow a report format including a title page, contents page, sections

and sub sections, page numbers, appendix section etc.
• Use diagrams, illustrations, tables, graphics etc. wherever these are
helpful.
• The maximum word count is 3000 words (+/- 10%).
• It does not include title page, contents page, reference section,
appendices etc. If the assignment exceeds these limits; the work in
excess of 3000 is not marked.
• Executive Summary is included in the word count

• Question 1 : By taking as an example a product or a service from an

industry that you are familiar with, critically discuss the main
factors that influence the manufacturing/service process design.

• Discuss the process design of your chosen product or service in relation
to volume, variety, equipment flexibility and so on.
• To which extent this process design is successful? Do we achieve
flexibility and cost effectiveness to cope with changes in demand?
• Can the existing process design be further improved?
• Present a diagram e.g. a flow chart of the process design for the product
or service.
• Use theory and practice together. Do not present a separate
literature review section and then the analysis of the process
design

• Question 2: Discuss how implementation of the 5 ‘performance

objectives’ – quality, speed, dependability, flexibility and cost - may
assist in achieving greater productivity, lower costs and higher quality.

• Present graphically the 5 Performance model for your product or service –
