DIFFERENT RIZAL MONUMENTS IN

THE PHILIPPINES AND AROUND


THE WORLD
RIZAL MONUMENT (PHILIPPINES)

Found in the Philippines, the monument consists of a standing bronze sculpture of


Rizal, with an obelisk, set on a stone base within which his remains are interred, holding
his 2 famous novels "El Filibusterismo and Noli Me Tangere“, the location is also where
Rizal was executed. The Rizal Monument acts as an important national heritage for
Filipinos, memoralizing the heroic act of Jose Rizal to his country.
RIZAL MONUMENT (MADRID)
The Rizal Monument in the
Philippines has also a replica
located in Madrid, Spain it is
where in the city Rizal lived for
almost a decade after finishing
medical school at the University
of Santo Tomas. To pay homage
to the life of our national hero,
the city commissioned Filipino
sculptor Florante Caedo to build
an intricate bronze statue of
Rizal.
RIZAL MONUMENT (HONG KONG)
There is also a Rizal
Monument found in Hong
Kong, it is where he first
planned the founding of La
Liga Filipina. Apparently, it
was also here where Rizal
drafted Filipino translations
of Noli Me Tangere and El
Filibusterismo. During his stay
here in Hong Kong, Rizal
utilized his profession as an
ophthalmic surgeon. His family
joined him here for a short
while before the Spaniards
arrested him.
RIZAL MONUMENT (JAPAN)
In 1998, Tokyo City unveiled a
bronze bust of Rizal at Hibiya Park.
The statue stands right where the
hero stayed for 45 days before
travelling to Europe. According to
historians, Rizal immersed in the
Japanese culture during his stay. He
learned about the culture, enjoyed
the arts, and interacted with the
people. Unsurprisingly, Rizal gained
a lover in the country. Her name was
Seiko Usui, and she was the epitome
of everything the hero loved about
Japan.
RIZAL MONUMENT (LONDON)

Located in London, the Rizal Monument is placed in the historical


home of the Beckett Family where Rizal was involved with Gertrude
Beckett during his stay in London. Rizal made some of his greatest works
in London. It’s only fitting for him to be recognized here first and
foremost as a writer. With almost a year of staying in the city, Rizal
improved his English skills and wrote several pieces for La Solidaridad.
RIZAL MONUMENT (PARIS)

A Rizal Monument is also found in Paris, France where at the age of 22


Rizal travelled and went to Paris. He loved marveling at sights and
immersing with locals. He fell in love with places as much as people.
RIZAL MONUMENT (GERMANY)
From Paris, Rizal went to Germany.
it is here he continued to write his works.
He also attended various lectures at the
University of Heidelberg, which is where
his monument was built and made. In
Wilhelmsfeld, there is a park dedicated to
Jose Rizal. At the heart of this park
stands a full-body statue sculpted by
Anastacio Caedo.
