____________

1. What/ who was Rizal for a hero?

- Dr. Jose P. Rizal fought against Spanish colonization for Filipinos’ freedom. As
one of the Filipino citizens who are enjoying the freedom today, for me Rizal is
not just a hero, he is an inspiration to all Filipinos to fight for our freedom.

2. Create a cluster diagram on the values highlighted by Rizal’s life.

3. Write an essay or speech about a particular value Rizal advocated.

- Rizal fought to free his countrymen from ignorance, exploitation and

discrimination. His writings and works especially his two novels which are the
Noli Me Tangere and the El Filibusterismo, where he reveal the experiences of
sufferings and discriminations of Filipinos. His books brought lights to awaken
the consciousness of Filipinos to the truth. I’m glad that during that during that
time Jose Rizal was there, to fight for us. If it hasn’t for we are still under the
ruling of Spanish government.

Project-based:

1. Enumerate and explain why nationalism and symbols of nationalism are

important in a
nation.
- Nationalism is the feeling of oneness among the people of a certain country. The
symbols of nationalism are important because they serve as representation of
the country’s tradition; convey the principle of sovereignty and solidarity of the
Philippines. These symbols are our national identity like the national flag,
sampaguita, narra tree and the national anthem.
2. Photo exhibit of different Rizal monuments in the Philippines and abroad with
short descriptions about their background and interpretations on their
imagery and representations.

The landmark is the most recognizable

monument in Luneta. The Rizal Monument
serves a meaningful national heritage for
Filipinos, commemorating the heroic act of
Jose Rizal to his country. An exact replica of
the Rizal Monument can be found in Madrid,
Spain at the junction of Avenida de Las Islas
Filipinas and Calle Santander.

It is perhaps the most curious

sculpture of Dr Jose Rizal in the
Philippines: the national hero’s bust
sitting on his two famous novels – Noli
Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo –
which are in turn supported by 3 naked
figures.
