ORGANIZING WRITING

WORKSHOPS FOR ENGLISH-

ELECTIVE CLASS OF GRADE-
IV LEARNERS IN HOLY
TRINITY SCHOOL OF PADRE
GARCIA BATS., INC.

LOISAGA, QUEEN MARYGOLD B.

CONTEXT AND RATIONALE
The writing ability of the learners is not commendable like
the other skill. In fact, the researcher felt a great need to
identify the difficulties encountered by grade- IV learners in
written-communication skills and wanted to propose specific
and effective strategies that can be used in writing workshops
in lieu of the Speech subject for English-Elective class, which
will be a trial during the fourth quarter of the academic year.
Writing workshops are student-centered framework for
teaching writing as students write frequently. This is to
enhance the difficulties encountered in written-communication
of grade-IV learners, specifically in Holy Trinity School of
Padre Garcia, Bats., Inc.
KEY LITERATURE
Moreover, it is also related to the study of Pinar Bulut
(2017). She focused on the effects of students’ writing
attitudes and writing self-efficacy beliefs on their summary
writing achievement. These concepts are influential on
social and motor skills and affect students’ learning and
achievement performance.

On the other hand, Rohayati (2014) focused on the

challenges and the teachers’ difficulties in teaching writing
skill. This study found that teachers have difficulty to
motivate the students because the students are
uninterested in learning writing.
Additionally, Salem (2013) studied the effects of
using writer’s workshop approach on developing
basic writing skills. Based on his findings, the
researcher recommends introducing the writing
workshop approach to be used in teaching writing
in faculties of Education. This entails training the
students to work collaboratively with each other
when writing.

Velasquez (2011) investigates difficulties in

elementary school students’ writing. She
emphasized that most of the students show
critical weaknesses in the command of basic
writing skills like grammar structures, spelling,
vocabulary, coherence, and cohesion.

strategies that can be used by the
teachers in writing workshops during
English-elective classes of grade-IV
learners?
