GOD OUR

GUIDE
Psalm 25: 8-9,12
Last year we learned these facts
about God:
HE IS WISE
HE IS JUST
HE IS OUR ULTIMATE
RULER
HE IS MIGHTY
HE IS SOVEREIGN
DO YOU
BELIEVE THAT
GOD CAN
GUIDE YOU?
DO YOU FEAR
THAT YOU ARE
MISSING
GOD’S
GUIDANCE
FOR YOU?
Psalm 25 is especially
centered on the guidance
of God—not only on His
ability to guide but also
pictures how and who God
guides.
Psalm 25: 8
Good and upright is the
Lord; therefore He
instructs sinners in his
ways.
Psalm 25: 9
He guides the humble in
what is right and
teaches them His way.
Psalm 25: 12
Who then is the man
that fears the Lord? He
will instruct him in the
way chosen for him.
4 BASIC TRUTHS ABOUT
DIVINE GUIDANCE
1. GOD HAS A PLAN
2. HOW WE RECEIVE
GUIDANCE
3. PITFALLS
4. NO SIMPLE ANSWERS
GOD
HAS
A
PLAN
BELIEF THAT DIVINE
GUIDANCE IS REAL RESTS
UPON TWO FOUNDATION-
FACTS:
A. THE REALITY OF GOD’S
PLAN FOR US
B. THE ABILITY OF GOD TO
COMMUNICATE WITH US.
1
HAS GOD A
PLAN FOR
INDIVIDUALS?
He has
formed an
“ETERNAL
PURPOSE”
Ephesians 3:11
According to his eternal
purpose which he
accomplished in Christ
Jesus our Lord.
Ephesians 1:10
To be put into effect when the
times will have reached their
fulfillment– to bring all things
in heaven and on earth together
under one head, even Christ.
Ephesians 1:11
In Him we were also chosen,
having been predestined
according to the plan of him
who works out everything in
conformity with the purpose of
his will.
He had a plan for the
redemption of Israel from
Egyptian slavery; guided
them through the sea and the
desert by means of a pillar of
cloud by day and pillar of
fire by night.
He had plan for the return of
his people from Babylonian
exile, where he guided by
setting Cyrus on the throne and
stirring up his spirit
(Ez. 1:1) to send the Jews home
and build their temple.
He had a plan
for Jesus
Luke 18:31
…and everything that
is written by the
prophets about the Son
of Man will be fulfilled.
Jesus’ whole
business on
earth was to
do his
Father’s will
John 4:34
“My food,” said Jesus,
“is to do the will of him
who sent me and finish
his work.”
God had a plan for
Paul (Acts 21:14;
22:14; 26:16-19; 1
Tim. 1:16), in five of
his letters Paul
announces himself as
an apostle by the will
of God.
In other words,
God has a written
plan for you that
He will accomplish
according to His
purpose and will.
CAN GOD

2
COMMUNICATE
HIS PLAN
TO US?
GOD IS
COMMUNICATIVE
He made known His
will to and through
the OT prophets.
He guided Jesus
and Paul to
execute his will
Philip being sent to
the desert to meet the
Ethiopian eunuch
(Acts 8:26, 29)
Acts 8:26, 29
Now the angel of the Lord said to
Philip, “Go south to the road–
the desert road– that goes down
from Jerusalem to Gaza…
The Spirit told Philip, “Go to
that chariot and stay near it.”
Peter being told to
accept the invitation
of Cornelius
(Acts 10:19-20)
Acts 10:19-20
While Peter was still thinking
about the visions, the Spirit said
to him, “Simon, three men are
looking for you. So get up and go
downstairs. Do not hesitate to go
with them, for I have sent them.
The church at Antioch
being charged to send
Paul and Barnabas as
missionaries
(Acts 13:2)
Acts 13:2
While they were worshiping the
Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit
said, “Set apart for me Barnabas
and Saul for the work to which I
have called them.
Paul and Silas
being called into
Europe
(Acts 16:6-10)
Acts 16:6-8
Paul and his companions traveled
throughout the region of Phrygia and
Galatia, having been kept by the Holy Spirit
from preaching the word in the province of
Asia. When they came to the border of
Mysia, they tried to enter Bithynia, but the
Spirit of Jesus would not allow them to. So
they passed by Mysia and went down to
Troas.
Acts 16:9-10
During the night Paul had a vision of a man
of Macedonia standing and begging him,
“Come to Macedonia and help us.” After
Paul had seen the vision, we got ready at
once to leave for Macedonia, concluding
that God has called us to preach the gospel
to them.
Paul being instructed to
press on with his
Corinthian ministry
(Acts 18:9-10)
Acts 18:9-10
One night the Lord spoke to Paul in
a vision: “Do not be afraid; keep on
speaking, do not be silent. For I am
with you and no one is going to
attack and harm you because I have
many people in this city.”
The OT contains
explicit promises of
divine guidance
whereby we may know
God’s plan for our
action.
Psalms 32:8
I will instruct you and teach
you in the way you should go;
I will counsel you and watch
over you.
Isa. 58:11 contains the
promise that if the people
repent and obey,
“the Lord will guide you
always”
Proverbs 3:6
In all your ways acknowledge
him and he will make your
paths straight.
In the NT, the same
expectation of
guidance appears.
Paul’s and Epaphras’
prayers (Col. 1:9; 4:12)
clearly assumes that God is
ready and willing to make
his will known
Colossians 1:9
We have not stopped praying
for you and asking God to fill
you with the knowledge of His
will through all spiritual
wisdom and understanding.
Colossians 4:12
He is always praying for
you that you may stand
firm in all the will of God,
mature and fully assured.
Wisdom in scriptures always
means knowledge of the
course of action that will
please God and secure life, so
that the promise in James 1:5
is in effect a promise of
guidance.
Romans 12:2
Do not conform any longer to the
pattern of this world, but be
transformed in the renewing of your
mind. Then you will be able to test
what God’s will is– his good,
pleasing and perfect will.
CONCLUSION
The Bible confirms that God
will guide. He guides his
children. Christians are
children of God. God, who is
our Father will guide us just
as any human parent would.
The Scripture is God’s Word
“profitable for teaching, for
reproof, for correction, and for
training in righteousness, that
the man of God may be
complete, equipped for every
good work”
2 Tim. 3:16-17.
As Christians, we have an
indwelling Instructor, the
Holy Spirit
(1 John 2:20. 27).
God seeks his glory in our lives,
and he is glorified in us only
when we obey his will.
Application
1.Know the plan of God for you
by reading his Word.
2.Do not doubt the faithfulness
of the Holy Spirit to his ministry.
3.Obey His will for you so that
you may glorify him.

GLORY
