5.3 Feedback to Improve learning

Giving feedback or technical assistance to our colleagues creates positive

work culture. It is a form of help or guidance to the teacher to be more
effective in their performance. The most important ways in providing
technical assistance are through Classroom Observation, Learning Action
Cell and Individual Coaching. Through these, the weaknesses of the teachers
are being strengthen and improve to address the diverse needs of their
learners.

5.3 Feedback to Improve learning

Technical assistance to teachers aims to improve the delivery of basic

education. It should aim towards improvement in students learning. Feedback
can improve students confidence, self-awareness and enthusiasm for learning.
In this new normal situation, it is more convenient for us to meet and give
technical assistance F2F due to lack of signal. Its ultimate goal is to bridge
the gap through LAC, attending webinars or trainings.

3.4 Learners in Difficult Circumstances

Each child is unique. They learn differently from others. In this time of
pandemic, not all students have an access to internet, TV and other means of
technology. In our school, other learners came across with difficult
circumstances and we have to address that matter. Teachers use some creative
methods to teach the child so they all learn. In my case I have recorded video
lessons and booklets given to students. I also uploaded lessons via YouTube
and sent to messengers in our group chat.

Teachers find time for home visits, other teachers use powerpoint
presentation and teach them in their dialects to address their needs, and the
directions in the LAS/SLMs were simplified for better understanding so they
can easily follow. Strategic Intervention materials were also given to address
students who are at risk of failing and those who did not master a particular
competencies in every quarter. A weekly students feedback form were also
given to students to monitor their progress and difficulties in a subject or
lesson.

4.5 Teaching and Learning Resources including ICT

In this new normal situations, teachers need to adopt and adjust on the policy
being push by the department which is to make SLM and Activity sheets
based on the MELC they provided. They need to be digitally literate, it helps
them in preparation of their plans, activity sheets etc. Through the knowledge
of ICT, teachers can interact with their students, they can help students
through the use of powerpoint, online messages, and calls. It helps in
effective use of ICT software and hardware for teaching-learning process. It
also develop teachers to attend webinars and online submission of reports.
Thus teachers are advised to learn the use of Information and Communication
Technology.

Information and Communication Technology can help and impact students

learning when teachers are digitally literate and understand how to integrate
into the curriculum. It helps teachers to interact students, so that students
could find the lesson easy, enjoyable and interesting. It also helps teachers to
access with students, colleagues, superiors and the like.

The success of lesson depends on how the teacher plans his lesson, the
instructional materials used, and the way he delivers the lessons. When the
activities jibed from the objectives down to evaluation, the learning outcomes
would be achieved. We also have to consider our learners needs to achieve
our purpose. Activities should be within the ability of the students.

5.4 Communication of learners’ needs, progress and

Part of our duty is a constant communication to the parents of our students to

inform learners’ needs, their progress and achievements. One of the
observable behaviors or attitudes of a learner that the teacher must address
immediately are those who did not submit their modules on time, those who
can’t read, and even those who are not performing well.

REFLECTIVE SUMMARY

7.4 Professional Reflection and learning to improve practice

COVID-19 is not a hindrance!!!

SY 2020-2021 brought extraordinary challenges due to COVID-19 pandemic

and has affected the health, economic growth, peoples’ lifestyle, and also the
education of our youth in the whole world.
In our department, Department of Education, we’ve gone through a lot of
efforts to maintain learning continuity even before the beginning of classes which
move on last October. Educational community provided us trainings, webinars,
orientations to continue the delivery of basic education to sustain and provide
quality education despite lockdown and community quarantine. This time, we
called it, the NEW Normal, hence it became the basis into consideration in planning
and implementation.
Through Learning Delivery Modality training, it gradually brighten on how
to cope with this new trend of teaching. School Head trained LDM1, to widen
knowledge on how we reach our parents and children, on how we choose the
delivery of education in our places. It is not that easy to adjust and adapt the new
Normal, so we as a LAC Leader, we have to plan and organize SLAC to inform and
provide necessary information regarding the New Normal situation.
Everybody needs to adapt to new pedagogical concepts and modes in the
delivery of teaching. In this time of pandemic, our school adapt to use module for
our children. The distribution and retrieval done weekly. This cycle is continued
until the end of the year.
Meanwhile, teachers tried their best to adapt in using technology and spend
money for load, just to have weekly “Kumustahan” and to attend webinars and
trainings.
This pandemic brought also opportunities for those who are not digitally
literate. It helped teachers to learn and became knowledgeable in technology
resources.
Parents experienced on how to teach their children, on how difficult the role
of a teachers are. This time, parents valued the work of a teacher, and so far parents
knew that children always believe teachers being the transport of learning.
For me, whatever the reasons behind this COVID-19, what important is that
we survived, we learned, we had adjusted everything and we pursue the SY 2020-
2021 with good health together with our DepEd Family.
Through the help of DepEd Secretary Briones and her constituents, the
education continues and it was a remarkable year. We surpassed the challenge
brought about by COVID-19 pandemic and we emerged victorious to take on the
next set of challenges.
In this course, we build friendships, we build a team and most of all we build
mission and vision to our country as well as to our learners. I have to admit that
completing this portfolio has been quite a challenge and I have taken a lot of time
and effort to hopefully make it the best it could be. I do feel a sense of pride and
