• The Central Building Research Institute (CBRI) at Roorkee, Uttarakhand, India, is a constituent establishment of Council of Scientific and Industrial
Research, India.

• It was founded in 1947

• It has the responsibility of assisting the building construction and building material
industries in finding timely, appropriate and economical solutions to the problems of
building materials, health monitoring and rehabilitation of structures, disaster mitigation,
fire safety, energy-efficient rural and urban housing. The Institute is committed to serving
the people through R&D in the development process and maintains linkages at
international and national level.

• The Institute maintains relationships with national and international standards-


setting groups like –

 CIB in the Netherlands;


 TWAS in Italy;
 BRE in the United Kingdom; 
 ASTM in the United States;
 CSIRO in Australia;
 RILEM in France;
 BRS in Canada and
 UNCHS in Nairobi, Kenya.

• The Architecture and Building Research Institute is a leading national research agency in Taiwan under the supervision of the Ministry of the Interior of
the Republic of China.

• Taiwan's ABRI has two initiatives - The Green Building and Living Environmental Technology Plan & Green Building Promotion Program which focus
on ecological environmental technology, construction waste reduction, building energy conservation, natural resource usage, indoor environmental
quality control, and green building demonstrative projects.
• Objectives:

 Promotion of green building and environmental
control technology
 Planning for safe housing and disaster prevention
 Establishment of fire safety regulation
 Development of innovative engineering technology
 Vitalization of the building industrial economy
