What are conventional signs?
◦ Conventional signs and symbols are standard symbols
used on a map to convey a definite meaning.
◦ The topographic map contains a variety of information
about physical and cultural features.
◦ These are shown by using signs and symbols in various
colours so that the clarity of the map is maintained.
◦ The symbols are the key of the map.
What is topographic?
◦ Topographic is relating to the arrangement of the physical features
of an area
◦ A topographic map is a map that indicates the features of the land's
surface, such as mountains, hills, and valleys
◦ Identifies numerous cultural and natural ground features, which can
be divided into the categories
Why use conventional signs?
◦Easy and more clear to use a map
◦Symbols convey the information provided
by the map
◦They represent different features on a map
How many types of conventional symbols are there?

There are total 3 types of symbols:-


Point symbol - Symbol at any
particular point on map

Area symbol - It covers the area on


map in some specified way.

Line symbol - Representation in


form of line. Eg.- Rail, Road, etc.
