Nutrients

organism’s metabolism
which must be taken from
its environment. 
Types of Nutrients
• Macronutrients
• those that are needed in larger
quantities
• a. chemical elements carbon,
hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen,
phosphorous and sulphur.
• b. chemical compounds
carbohydrates, proteins and fats

•Micronutrients
• those that are needed in very
small amounts.
• Usually minerals and vitamins

•Non-essential
nutrients
• those nutrients that can be made
by the body, they may often
also be absorbed from
consumed food.
