Life as an entrepreneur
◦ From a very young age, Bhavish knew that he wanted to become an entrepreneur. Unable to suppress
his entrepreneurial passion any longer, he quit Microsoft. Soon after, he started an online company
which dealt with the sale of short duration tours and holidays online.

◦ Ola was launched on 3 December 2010. There is an interesting story behind Ola's start. Born in
Ludhiana, Ola owner Bhavish Aggarwal was just like every other success-driven entrepreneur.

◦ Bhavish first started an online site named Olatrip.com that offered holiday packages and weekend
trips.

◦ Bhavish on-boarded his co-founder Ankit Bhati for taking Ola Cabs forward.

◦ Bhavish believes that anyone can have a good business idea but to implement it successfully, one
must have a scalable model to power the business. According to him, the best or one of the safest
models one can or should adopt is running a business while owning “zero” inventory.
◦ The industry was highly unorganized. Training the drivers here
particularly in Indian context where many of them are illiterate was
a challenge. Making them use tabs and devices was a big
operational problem and thus greatly increase their dependency on
call center operations. This is where Uber has a big lead. Then off-
course behavioral issues of the drivers, maintaining the quality of
service as well as cars was a challenge.

◦ Happy drivers = Happy Customers

STRATEGIES ◦ Drivers are the customers for Ola and TFS, while people i.e., end

ADOPTED customers availing cabs are merely users of the platform.

◦ As you got a lot of drivers on the platform, managing them was

also a challenge, which these guys overcome successfully through
various measures.

◦ Once you have setup processes scaling up is relatively easy here.

That is 1 reason the industry is a darling for investors and series of
funding happening in very quick succession.
◦ In December 2010, he was joined by his cofounder Ankit
Bhatia in his start-up journey.
◦ His parents didn't agree with his idea in the beginning of
course, like all Indian Parents won’t. In the beginning funding
Challenges- Risk
was the main problem. Taking
◦ There was difficulty with the available infrastructure like
roads, network connectivity etc.
To solve the infrastructural problem the company is
working with the Government to help solve these in the
medium to long term.

Problem He raised angel funding from Snapdeal founder Kunal

Bahl, as well as investors including Rehan yar Khan and
Solving Anupam Mittal.
