Degree
 Definition:
Degrees are a unit of angle measure. A full circle is
divided into 360 degrees.
 Example:
A right angle is 90 degrees. A degree has the symbol
° and so ninety degrees would written 90°.
Degree
 History:
The word "degree" has many meanings
in mathematics. . This unit harks back to the
Babylonians, who used a base 60 number system.
likely arises from the Babylonian year, which was
composed of 360 days (12 months of 30 days each).
Degree
 Degree of Function:
A degree in a polynomial function is the greatest
exponent of that equation, which determines the most
number of solutions that a function could have and
the most number of times a function will cross the x-
axis when graphed.
Degree

 Heighest Degree:
• Degree of a Polynomial with More Than
One Variable
• The largest such degree is the degree of
the polynomial.
Second
 The basic unit of time.
There are 60 seconds in 1 minute and 3,600
seconds in an hour.
 The second is the base unit of time in the

International System of Units (SI) commonly

understood and historically defined as 1⁄86400
of a day – this factor derived from the division
of the day first into 24 hours, then to 60
minutes and finally to 60 seconds each.
Second
 Explanation:
Multiples of seconds are usually counted in
hours and minutes. Fractions of a second are
usually counted in tenths or hundredths. In
scientific work, small fractions of a second are
counted in milliseconds (thousandths),
microseconds (millionths), nanoseconds
(billionths), and sometimes smaller units of a
second.
Seconds
 Explanation:
An everyday experience with small
fractions of a second is a 1-gigahertz
microprocessor which has a cycle time of 1
nanosecond. Camera shutter speeds are
often expressed in fractions of a second,
such as 1⁄30 second or 1⁄1000 second.
Minute

 Definition:
The minute is a unit of time usually
equal to 1⁄60 (the first sexagesimal
fraction[1]) of an hour, or 60 seconds.
Minute
 Explanation:
In the UTC time standard, a minute on rare
occasions has 61 seconds, a consequence
of leap seconds (there is a provision to
insert a negative leap second, which would
result in a 59-second minute, but this has
never happened in more than 40 years
under this system).
Minute
 Explanation:
Although not an SI unit, the minute is
accepted for use with SI units. The SI
symbol for minute or minutes is min
(without a dot). The prime symbol is also
sometimes used informally to denote
minutes of time.
DMS System

The DMS system also referred to as

Degree-Minutes-Seconds is a system that
is typically used by surveying a position
that requires longitude and latitude. In
the DMS system, a degree is divided into
exactly 6 minutes and each of those
minutes is divided into 60 seconds.
DMS System
 Explanation:
Degrees - Minutes - Seconds angle calculator.
This calculator is used to add and subtract
angles in the form Degrees - Minutes -
Seconds (DMS). Each degree is divided into 60
minutes, and each minute further divided into 60
seconds. This form is used in astronomy and
defining latitude and longitude
DMS System
 Conversion:
• For the degrees use the whole number part of the
decimal.
• For the minutes multiply the remaining decimal by
60. Use the whole number part of the answer as
minutes.
• For the seconds multiply the new remaining
decimal by 60.
