CHANGE IN MOTION

FORCE CAN MAKE THE MOVING OBJECT AT REST.

FORCE CAN MAKE THE REST OBJECT MOVING
Forces affect how objects move. They may
Force can ch cause motion; they may also slow, stop, or

ange the spe change the direction of motion of an object

that is already moving. Since force cause
ed of an obj changes in the speed or direction of an object,
we can say that forces cause changes in
ect... velocity. Remember that acceleration is a
change in velocity.
FOR EXAMPLE:-
>When a batsman will hit the ball with bat,
the speed of moving ball changes. ---> When a
person apply the brakes in car, suddenly the
car comes to rest with decrease in speed. --->
When Fielder catches the ball, the speed of
ball decreases
Force can Do you play cricket? Cricket and almost every other sport
change the rely on force to change the direction of the ball. The
bowler ball the ball towards the batsman but on coming in
direction contact with the bat the ball travels in a completely
different path. This is because the batsman applies force
of the obj on the ball in order to change the direction of the ball.
The steering wheel of your car works similarly. By
ect… applying force to turn the wheel, you are changing the
direction in which your car is traveling.
A cricketer uses force to change the direction of an
incoming ball.
To summarize, a force is a push, pull, or dragging on an
object that affects the object’s state of motion. The
force may also cause a combination of the above effects,
it may both accelerate/ decelerate and change the
direction of the object. Force in real life most often
affects both speed and direction of the motion. The
action from a force can cause an object to accelerate, to
decelerate, to stop, or to change direction.
Force can change the shape of the ob
ject
• When a force acts on an obj
ect, the object may change
shape by bending, stretching
or compressing - or a combi
nation of all three shape cha
nges. However, to change th
e shape of a stationary obje
ct there must be more than
one force acting to do the f
ollowing:
• Bend an object's ends past
each other, eg when an Oly
mpic diver stands on the end
of a diving board.
