Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) as a

Consequence of Learning difficulties

 Oppositional Defiant Disorder:

“a pattern of angry/irritable mood, argumentative/defiant behaviour, or

vindictiveness”.

❖ Blames others for mistakes or behaviour

❖ Bullying
 Cause of ODD:

ODD can happen at any stage of development of a child.The cause of

ODD is thought to be environmental, genetic and/or biological/medical
in nature.

“The development of ODD can be linked to parental psychopathology,

family and marital dysfunction, poor parents-child interaction, atypical
parenting, maternal age, substance abuse, poor supervision and
inconsistent or harsh discipline” Dieken (2005) .
 Evidence Based Intervention Treatments:

❖ Problem Solving Skills Training focuses on cognitive processes a

broad class of constructs that pertain to how the individual
perceives, codes and experiences the world.
❖ Parent Management Training focuses on parent-child interactions
and child behavior at home, at school and in the community.
