PROBLEM STATEMENT :
A tank is 40m in diameter 10m High, And its bottom shell course is 20mm thick. the tank has low
type nozzle with an outside diameter of 219.1mm in accordance with API 650 And the nozzle
centerline is 630 mm up from the bottom plate with reinforcement on the shell calculate Nozzle
stiffeness, flexibilities and Nozzle allowable loads ?

Input given:
Design code - API 650
pipe OD - 219.1 mm
wall thickness - 6 mm
material of pipe - A106 G B
Material of tank - ASTM 516 Gr 70
Tempreture - 200 C
Pressure - 1.6 MPa
Ambiant temp - -20 C
START PROF MODEL :
SOLUTION :
Given :
a = 305 mm G=1
L = 610 mm E = 191,000 MPa
H = 10000 mm α = 12.7 mm10^-6 /mm-C
∆T = 200+20 = 220 C t = 20 mm
R = 20000 mm
Calculate the nozzle stiffeness coefficiants for nozzle-tank connection
R/t =20000/20 = 1000
a/R = 305/20000 = 0.01525
L/2a = 610/610 = 1
For radial Load
Kr/E(2a) = 3.1 x 10^-4
Kr = (3.1 x 10^-4 x191000 x 610) = 361181 N/mm

For Longitudinal moment

KL/E(2a)3 = 4.4 x 10^-4
KL =4.4 x 10^-4 x191000x(610)3 = 1.907 x 10^10 N-mm/rad
SOLUTION :

For circumferantial moment

KC /E(2a)3 = 9.4 x 10^ -4
KC= 9.4 x 10^-4 x 191000 x (610)3 = 4.075 x 10^10 N-mm/rad

So nozzle stiffeness values are So Nozzle flexibility values are

Kr = 361181 N/mm Lrad =1/Kr = 2.768x10^-6 mm/N
KL = 1.907 x 10^10 N-mm/rad Rlong =1/KL= 5.243 x 10^-11 rad/N-mm
KC = 4.075 x 10^10 N-mm/rad Rcirc = 2.453 x 10^-11 rad/N-mm

XA = L + a = 610+305 = 915 mm
XB = L - a = 610 - 305 = 305 mm
XC = 610 mm

1- 0.75 XB /(Rt)0.5 = 1-0.75 x 305 /(20000x20)0.5 = 0.63

1- 0.75 XA /(Rt)0.5 = 1-0.75 x 915 /(20000x20)0.5 = -0.08
1- 0.75 XC /(Rt)0.5 = 1-0.75 x 610 /(20000x20)0.5 = 0.27

For ML =0 & MC =0
ʎ = 305/(20000x20)0.5 = 0.48 FP =(1000x9.8x9.37)Π x(0.305)3 = 8184.9 N
SOLUTION :

YF,YC & YL Can be obtained from graph

YF = 1.2/N YC = 4.8/N-mm YL = 3.8/N-mm

0.48 xFR/(2x1.2x8184.9) < 0.63

2.44x10^-5 x FRmax = 0.63
FRmax= 0.63/2.44x10^-5 = 25819.6 N

0.48 xMC/(305x4.8x8184.9) <0.27

4.005 x 10^-8 x MCmax=0.27
MCmax = 6.74 x10^6 N-mm
SOLUTION :

0.48 xML/(305x3.8x8184.9) <0.63

MLmax = 12.45 x 10^6 N-mm

So Allowable piping loads are

FRmax = 25819.6 N
MCmax = 6.74 x10^6 N-mm
MLmax = 12.45 x 10^6 N-mm
RESULTS :
CONCLUSION :
We concluded that the calculate values are entered in to software and the results shows that the Equipment
nozzle loads are safe under the given condition
