INTRODUCTION
Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC) is a passenger transport organization providing
bus services both within Gujarat and neighboring states.

GSRTC came into existence on 1st May, 1960 on formation of Gujarat. From a modest beginning of
7 divisions, 76 depots and 7 divisional workshops and a fleet of 1,767 buses it has gone to,
 16 Divisions
 125 Depots
 226 bus stations
 1,554 pick up stands
 8,703 buses
This remarkable growth is an outcome of unflagging effort of more than 39,795 workforce,
dynamic management and sustained support from the state govt. It has built up formidable
technical facilities.
 Three level maintenance and repair facility - 125 depot workshops, 16 divisional workshops
and a central workshop.
 7 tyre retreading plant.
 Bus body building plant (1000 bus bodies / year).
 Printing press.
MAINTANANCE OF ENGINE

 In maintenance of engine first of all disassemble the

engine and after disassembly open the engine
 Used engine oil is removed from it and open the
engine.
 After disassembly of all the parts of the engine due
to high heat and oil impurities piston are rusted and
the piston rings are also damaged.
 After removing the corrosion from it and clean with
oil and oil seal and piston ring also changed.
 After set fire order of piston stroke(ex.1-3-2-4)
 And assemble the engine and inspect the engine.
TYPES OF SYSTEM IN BUS
 Transmission system
 Governing system
1. Clutch
1. Steering rod
2. Gear box
2. Tayrod
3. Propeller shaft
 Brake System
4. Differential
1. Air brake sysyem
2. Hand brake system
 Fuel ststem
3. Exhaust brake
1. Fuel pump
 Suspension system
2. Fuel injector
1. Leaf spring system
3. Combustion chamber
2. Shock absorber
 Exhaust system
 Electric system
1. Exhaust miniport
1. Bettery
2. Silencer
2. Alternator
 Power transmission system
3. Starter
1. Clutch system
 Cooling syatem
1. Air cooling Universal joint
2. Water cooling
3. Oil cooling
 Lubrication system
1. Oil pump
2. Pressure feed
AIRBRAKING SYSTEM

When the brake pedal is pushed the brake valve opens and
compressed air is allowed into the brake chamber.
The brake valve consists of three passages.
1. Air intake
2. Exhaust
3. Brake chamber
When the brake pedal is pressed the exhaust passage will
be closed and Air intake passage open and compressed air
goes back to the chamber. During return stroke the exhaust
passage opens while intake closes and used air goes to the
atmosphere. This system fitted with an emergency
mechanical brake, which can be used when air supply fails
the air brake system, which is called an air-assisted
hydraulic braking system.
MAINTANANCE OF GEARBOX

 Problems in gear box :-

1. Shift lever locks in particular one gear
2. Gear shift into wrong gear
3. Eneven wera of teeth
4. Immediate jurk while gear shifting
5. Excessive noise and vibration
6. Slipping of gears.
AIR SHOE BRAKE

 The operator depresses the brake pedal, actuating the air

braking system.
 The air from the reservoirs is supplied for the brake valves.
 The air from the valves is delivered to the brake chambers.
 The chambers move the pushrod to push on the slack
adjusters.
 The adjusters transfer pushrod force into cam rotational
force.
 The cam rotates, causing the rollers to rise and force the
shoes against the drum.
 The shoe linings contact the drum to slow or stop the wheel.
 The operator releases the brake pedal.
 The delivered air exhausts.
 The brake shoe return springs force the shoes to release
contact from the drum.
 The brake shoes return to their original positions, causing the
cam to rotate back to its original position.
 The slack adjuster returns to its original position.
 The brakes are released.
DIFFRENTIAL

The basic technical principle is usually that of what is called a

bevel differential gear, with a differential cage, two planetary
gears, and two output shafts. The crucial feature is that the two
planetary gears form the connection between the engine’s drive
and the two output shafts—but they do this in very different
ways:
 When driving straight: The engine drives the differential
cage. The planetary gears are stationary at this time. As a
result, the cage and the two output shafts all turn at the
same speed. This means that the two wheels on the axle also
turn at the same speed.
 When driving around curves: Now the outer wheel on an
axle has to cover a longer distance, so the two output shafts
have to turn at different speeds. To achieve this, the
planetary gears in the differential rotate around their own
axes at different speeds. This balances out the difference in
the speeds of the two wheels.
Outcomes of Summer Internship

 Capability to acquire and apply fundamental principles.

 Ability to communicate efficiently.

 Practical Knowledge – During internship we learnt the

Standard Operating Parameter of different machines that
were installed in the production line.

 And learn how to change engine, and its parts.

 Brake settings and repairing of shoe brake and air brake

 Systems used in bus and difference between BSIV and BSVI

GLIMPS OF INTERNSHIP
Future Scope
Following are the future scopes of this summer internship:
-
I. Starting our own business: - Industrial training help
in to start our own business. And add integrate the
new technology and fast service to the customers
and satisfactory result from them.
II. ‘‘The experience gained from the training sharpen
the business acumen and open the doors to better
employment prospects’’.
CONCLUSION

 From my experience at ST WORKSHOP - BHUJ, I was able to

get a better understanding of how the production of Plant
machinery is carried out and how the various types of
machineries involved in production works.

 I enjoyed working with ST WORKSHOP – BHUJ production

team to devise and implement different technical skills.

 The internship program has improved my ‘personal attitude’,

‘Communication skills’ and ‘Work attitude’.

Overall, I found the summer internship experience to be

positive, and I’m sure I will be able to use the skills I
learned in my career later.
