AIR PURIFIER Samar

Problem definition

 We tend to think of air pollution as something that happens outside but that's
not always the case. Even inside your home, there are things like dust mites
and dirt trodden in from outdoors to worry about.
 Indoor air pollution from sources like this can irritate your lungs and
contribute to allergies and asthma. The trouble is, if you use an ordinary
vacuum cleaner, you might simply be "rearranging the dirt": your cleaner will
trap some of the dust inside the bag or cyclone filter but let the rest pass
straight back into the room. If you suffer from asthma or another breathing
difficulty, you may find a HEPA(sometimes defined as "high-efficiency
particulate air," sometimes as "high-energy particulate arresting") air purifier.
Our suggested solution
The most common problem during the summer season is pollution, dust, and
allergies. With increase in the number of pollutants in the air, there is an
increase in the demand for air purifiers. These air purifiers can be used in
offices, homes, commercial places, and if their efficiency is high, then they
can also be used outdoors. Air purifier is a device used to remove contaminants
like dust particles, cloth Fibres etc. present in the air. These devices are
claimed to be beneficial to people having allergies, and asthma. The
commercially graded air purifiers are manufactured as either small stand-alone
units or larger units that can be affixed to an air handler unit (AHU) or to a
heating ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) unit found in the medical,
industrial, and commercial industries. Air purifiers may also be used in industry
to remove impurities such as CO2 from air before processing.
BENEFITS of AIR purifier

 Dust, pollen, pet dander, Mould spores, and dust mite faeces can act as
allergens, triggering allergies in sensitive people. Smoke particles and volatile
organic compounds (VOCs) can pose a risk to health.
 With the advancement in air purification technology, air purifiers are
becoming increasingly capable of capturing a greater number of bacterial,
virus, and DNA damaging particulates.
 Air purifiers are used to reduce the concentration of these airborne
contaminants and can be useful and fruitful for people who suffer from
allergies and asthma.

Poly-ethylene terephthalate (PET) primary mesh filter This material is 3-5
times tougher than comparable models
HEPA Filter
Will be using HEPA H14 Grade Filter which passes 0.005% of 0.1 micron particles
in the air. This is superior to the competitors using HEPA filters H12 and H13
which pass upto 0.5% and 0.05% of 0.1 micron particles, respectively.
CLEAN AIR DELIVERY RATE (CADR)
CADR is a figure of merit that indicates how much air the purifier cleans in a
given time. It is either measured as cubic meter of air delivered in hour or cubic
foot of air delivered in a minute. The standard considered for our project will
be in cubic feet per minute (CFM) of air that has had all the particles of a given
size distribution removed.
CADR value= area of room in square feet/1.55
( 1.55 is the standard value obtained by the AHAM’s 2/3 rule)
Area of room= 35ft. x 35ft. = 1225 sq.ft
CADR value = 1225/1.55 = 790.322 m3h
CADR in cubic feet per minute= 465.153 cfm

Air changed in an hour= CADR in cfm x minutes of an hour

ACH= 465.153 x 60 = 27909.18
= 28000 cfh

Reference room dimensions= 35ft. x 35ft. x 15ft.

Room volume= 35x35x15= 18375 cu.ft

ACH rating= air changed in room in an hour/ room volume

ACH= 28000/18375 = 1.52
ACH rating= 1.52
FAN calculations
 fan size = 200mm dia, number of fans = 3
  Reference Room = 10m(l) x 10m(b) x 5m(h) (approx. 35ft x 35ft x 15ft)
Needs air flow of 84 m^3/min to purify entire volume of air every 10 minutes
Air flow is measured considering impedance. If impedance is difficult to
estimate, consider: actual air flow = 1/2 x theoretical air flow Noctua NF-A20
PWM - Chosen fan operating at 1400rpm  -  30dBA  N2=N1 + 50(logU2 - log U1)
= 18 + 50(log1400 -log800) = 18 + 50(3.14-2.9) = 18 + 12 = 30 dbA
 this implies that one fan will produce 30 db when measured from 1m or 3.3ft
away. To add two or more noise levels, if the difference between the highest
and next highest noise level is:
 0–1 dB then add 3 dB to the higher level to give the total noise level, 2–3 dB
then add 2 dB to the higher level to give the total noise level, 4–9 dB then add
1 dB to the higher level to give the total noise level 10 dB and over, then the
noise level is unchanged (i.e. the higher level is the total level) So, 35 dB plus
35 dB equals 38 dB.
 Therefore, 3 fans in series will produce 36 dbA
 normal volume flow = 146.9 m^3/hr
                    = 2.44 m^3/min
 V2 = (U2/U1) * V1 = (1400/800)*146.9= 257.075
 volume flow at 1400 rpm = 257.075 m^3/hr
  = 4.28 m^3/min volume flow of 3 fans = 12.84 m^3/min
 This implies that the entire air will be purified in 39.97
minutes.
