Chart Definitions
Chart is one way of presenting data succinctly by connecting the free
variable (X) and variable not free (Y). Making chart aims to help visualize
the data making it easier for us in understanding the data presented.

Basically, a chart is composed of essential elements such as the Chart


Title, Category (X) Axis, Value (Y) Axis, Plot Area, Legend, Gridlines, and
others. To know more about the discussion of the chart elements, follow
the explanation below:
 
• Chart Title
This section contains the title of the chart that describes the overall
presentation of data.
• Category (X) Axis
This section contains information on the X axis.
• Value (Y) Axis
Use this section to fill out the information on the axis Y.
• Gridlines
Is an auxiliary line on the X and Y axis that allows you to read interval data.
• Plot Area
Areas that unites Category and Value Axis. This area contains the data
that is presented including Gridlines.
• Legend
Contains information about data displayed in graphs.
• Data Marker
Data Marker is a symbol that represents the value of specific data.
• Data Series
Data Series is a collection of data values that have the same pattern.
• Data Value
Data Value is a single value from a data known as the Data Point.

Chart Types
• Area
Area chart or diagram of this region used fatherly describe the data series
as cumulative line with a line-shaped image display overlapping.
• Bar
This chart will display each time period as vertical bars. Frequently used in
technical analysis and to compare the value of inter-rows in the form of
bar charts.
• Column
Chart Column or composite column of this chart displays data in the form
of well-organized structure of upward or sideways.
• Bubble
This chart displays rows of data in the form of circular bubble.
• Doughnut
This chart illustrates the value of data series swell each represented by a
donut-shaped segments.
• Line
This chart serves to illustrate the value of each row of data in the form of
lines on a line.
• Pie
This chart serves to display the data in the form of cakes or circles of a
single data series.
• Radar
This chart serves to illustrate the value of the data series using the data
sources drawn from the center of the diagram and separately for each
category.
• Stock
This chart is used to describe information about the daily stock including
the stock price at the time of opening, closing highest and lowest price.
• Surface
This chart displays data in two-dimensional array as a line in the grid with
the color on the surface of the inter-line.
• Scatter
This chart will display a couple points (coordinates) the form of graph as
dots scattered.
Create Chart
The steps create a simple chart :
 
• Start by selecting the data to be converted into charts.
• Then choose the Insert tab. Continue by selecting one model chart
contained in the Charts.
• If you want to use the bar chart type for example, click the small triangle
located on the model of Column.
• Then choose one of the models who want to apply.
• The model chart of your choice will soon appear on the worksheet.
Changing the Model Chart
Steps :

• Start by activating the chart you want to change how it looks, then click
the Design tab.
• Next, press the Change Chart Type icon on the left corner of that tab.
• Then choose the model you want to use the new chart.
• Press the OK button to view the new chart.
Selecting Chart Styles
Steps :

• First, click the chart of your choice.


• Click the Design tab and click the More button in the Chart Styles.
• Then choose a style that you want applied to your chart.
• Next, you will see a more graphic display with a captivating blend of colors
is quite elegant.
 
Choosing a Chart Layout
Steps :

• First, select the graphic you want to change its layout.


• Then switch it on the Design tab and highlight the Chart Layout.
• Click the More button to display the layout options available and select
one of the options you want, for example Layout 9.
• If you use a bar graph model of 3-D Clustered Column and select Layout
9.
Adding Chart Titles
The techniques of adding the title of the chart and additional information
such as editing Axis Title, change the orientation of Axis, and so forth.
Editing Chart Titles
Steps :
 
• Begin by positioning the cursor on the Chart Title.
• Then, click the Chart Title text box.
• Type the title of your chart in that section.
Moving a Chart Title
Steps :
 
• Click on the chart of your choice first.
• Then activate the Layout tab. Continue by pressing the icon Chart Title.
• Next, choose the desired position, Centered Overlay Title or Above Chart.
• By default, charts will appear in the title Above Chart option.
• If you choose Centered Overlay Title option, the position title of the chart
will be in the area chart.
 
Editing Axis Title
Steps :

• Click the Axis Title text box.


• Type the text or captions to the axis Y.
• Perform the same steps for editing Axis Title on the axis X.
Change the Orientation Axis Title
Steps :

• Make sure that you have clicked on a chart.


• Activate the Layout tab, then click the Axis titles.
• Next, choose the option Primary Vertical Axis Title.
• Click on Title Horizontal option to get the view text written from left to
right.
• A moment later you will find in the Axis Title text display that has changed
its orientation.
Adding Data Labels
Steps :

• First, prepare a chart first.


• Then press the icon located on the Data Labels tab Layout.
• Continue by selecting the Show option.
• After the option is enabled, you will see the numbers that appear on the
chart it.
Positioning the Chart Legend
Steps :

• Click on the chart of your choice and switch it on the Layout tab.
• Afterward, press the icon Legend.
• Select the position desired Legend of the options available.
• If you select the option Show Legend at Bottom, you will see the display
just below the chart Legend.
Featured Chart Gridlines
Steps :
 
• Select the Layout tab first.
• Continue by pressing the icon Gridlines.
• Choose the type of gridlines that you want to use, Primary Horizontal
Gridlines or Primary Vertical Gridlines.
• After that, select the desired level of density gridlines.
Changing Rows and Columns
Steps :

• Click on the chart of your choice.


• Continue by pressing the Design tab.
• Afterwards, click the Switch Row / Column.
• You can see the emergence of graphs that represent data from the line,
no longer from the side of the column.
Activating Chart Wall and Floor Chart
If you want to activate the Chart Wall, apply a short step below:
 
Steps :
 
• Start by clicking on the chart of your choice first.
• Next, press the Layout tab and choose the iconic Wall Chart.
• Then click Show Chart Wall option to bring it up.
• Select None option to eliminate Wall Chart.
 
Not all chart types have Chart Floor although you can bring it with
practical methods below:

• First, click the Chart icon on the Layout tab Floor.


• Then select the option Show Floor Chart to display it.
• If you want to hide it, click the None option.
Customize the Chart Background
You can add images, textures, clip art, or the gradations of colors to make
it look unique and interesting.
Adding Photos
Steps :
 
• Begin by selecting a chart.
• Activate the Format tab, and then click the icon Shape Fill.
• Continue to choose the Picture option.
• Choose an image to be displayed as background and then press the Insert
button.
• A moment later you can see the display background chart that became
more beautiful with the added photographs.
Adding Texture
Steps :

• Click on the chart of your choice.


• Press the Format tab, and then click the Shape Fill.
• Continue by selecting the Texture option.
• Choose one of the textures are available.
• Chart which has been enhanced by the texture shown in the illustration
below.
Adding Color Gradient
Steps :
 
• Start by clicking on the chart of your choice.
• Then switch it on the Format tab.
• And then click the small arrow located on the Shape Style dialog box to display the
Format Shape.
• In the dialog box that appears, click the Fill option and press the radio button Gradient
Fill.
• Afterward, choose a color gradation you want to use the Color Preset combo box.
• Then choose the type of gradation in the Type combo box.
• Stop Position Move the slider to adjust the composition of color gradation on the
background of the chart.
• After that. Adjust the transparency and level of illumination by moving the slider in the
Brightness and Transparency.
• Click the Close button to view the desired background.
Adding Clip Art
Steps :
 
• First, choose a chart that want decorated clip art, and press the Format
tab.
• Click the small arrow icon in the Shape Style.
• Click the Fill options on the Format Chart Area dialog box. Continue by
clicking the radio button Picture or Texture Fill.
• Continue by pressing the Clip Art.
• Next, click one of the objects available in the Clip Art panel.
• Press the OK button to display the Clip Art as the background of your
chart.
Adding Effects On Background
Graphics
These special effects can enhance the appearance of your chart
background.
Adding a Shadow Effect
Steps :

• Choose the chart that will be given a shadow effect, and press the Format
tab.
• Continue by clicking the icon Shape Effects.
• Then select the Shadow option.
• Then click on one type of image you want applied to the background
graphics.
• As a result, the shadow effect will appear around the chart like the view
below.
Adding a Bevel Effect
Steps :

• Click on the chart options first.


• Activate the Format tab, tap the Shape Effects, and select Bevel option.
• Continue by selecting the desired model Bevel.
• Effect Bevel background will adorn your chart that looks more futuristic.
Effects Adding Perspective
Steps :

• Prepare a chart first.


• Press the Format tab, click Shape Effects, and then select the 3D Rotation
option.
• Click one of the options in the Perspective section.
• You can see the changes in position stem from the perspective of the
desired chart.
Beautify Text Title Chart
Techniques ranging from coloring text beautify the text, using WordArt, to
add special effects to the text.
Text Coloring
Steps :

• Selection chart first section title.


• Select the Format tab, and then click the icon Text Fill.
• Select the text color you want applied to the chart title.
• You can see the color change chart title text in accordance with previously
selected.
Using WordArt
Steps :
 
• Make a selection of chart title, and set the Format tab.
• Point your cursor to the WordArt Style and click the More button to bring
up an interesting variety of style letters.
• Choose one style according to your tastes.
• Now you can see the view that increases charts interesting titles with a
choice of letters that come from WordArt.
Adding Glow Effects on Chart Title
Steps :

• First, click the title of your chart.


• Next, choose the Format tab.
• Continue by clicking the icon Text Effects.
• Then choose the option Glow.
• Select one type Glow effects to be applied on the chart title.
• Then will appear the title of the graph which has the effect of
luminescence light at the edge of the text.
Adding Reflection Effect
Steps :

• Click the chart title, and switch on the Format tab and select Text Effects
icon.
• Select option Reflection and click on the type of effect you want to use.
• Then will appear the text that has the effect of Reflection.
Adding Shape
Steps :
 
• Start by activating the Insert tab, then select the icon Shapes.
• Then select the objects that will be used to beautify the appearance of the chart
title. For example, click on the Stars and Banners and select a theme of stars and
objects that attract banners.
• Next, click and drag to the title of the chart so that the display appear the shape
that you selected earlier.
• You can add style to shape it. But before, make sure you have activated the Format
tab.
• Then click the small arrow icon in the Shape Style to create a variety of attractive
styles.
• Then choose one of your own style.
• Display your choice of shape now looks more attractive additional with the new
style.
• Next, type the title of the graph in section shape.
• As a result, the presence of shape that frames your chart titles will add to the
beauty of the text in that section.
Adding Background Images in the
Chart Title
Steps :
 
• First, click the chart title.
• Continue to activate the Format tab, then choose Shape Fill icon.
• Select the Picture option.
• Continue to select photos that will be used as a background chart
title. Click the Insert button to end it.
Adding 3D Effects on the Chart Title
Background
Steps :
 
• Choose the graph that is still plain, and then click the Format tab.
• After that, press the small icon located in the Shape Styles to choose a
style that will be used to display the title of the chart background.
• The title which was originally a plain chart now appears impressive with
three-dimensional background.
Modifying Chart
You can change the color of wall charts, floor charts, change the font, or
change the display bar charts.
Modifying Wall Chart
Steps :

• Select a chart to be modified. Then activate the Layout tab.


• Continue by pressing the icon Wall Chart.
• Then choose the option Walls More Options.
• Click the Fill option and press the radio button Picture or Texture Fill.
• Afterwards, click the File button to select the image that is applied to the
wall chart.
• After clicking the image selection, press the Insert button.
• Click the Close button to end it.
Modifying a 3D Chart Floor
Steps :

• Make sure you have selected the 3D chart. Then position the cursor on
the ground floor chart.
• Right-click and choose the option Format Floor.
• In the next dialog box that appears, click the Fill option and select the
radio button Picture or Texture Fill.
• Continue by selecting the File button.
• Click on the image of your choice and proceed by clicking the Insert
button.
• Finish by pressing the Close button.
Changing Colors and Fonts
Steps :
 
• Start by right-clicking the chart of your choice, and then select the Font
option.
• After activating the Font tab, choose a font type to be used in combo
boxes Latin Text Font.
• If you want to change the font color, choose the color according to your
taste by clicking the Combo Font Color.
• Press the OK button to end the chart with the font and color of your
choice.
Stem Modifying Chart
Steps :

• Start by clicking on a bar chart so that all rods have the same color will
also be selected automatically.
• Right-click your mouse and select the option Format Data Series.
• Next, click the Fill option and click the radio button Picture or Texture Fill.
• Click the File button if you want to add pictures to the chart bars.
• Select the desired image and click the Insert button.
• Trunk chart with the same color will change how it looks with the
appearance of the image of your choice.
• To enhance the color bar chart on the other, do the same steps.
Giving Gridlines Color
Steps :

• First, click the gridlines on the chart so that all lines selected Gris.
• Right-click your mouse and select Format Gridlines option.
• In Major Format Gridlines dialog box, click the Line Color option.
Continue by clicking the radio button Solid Line.
• After that, choose the desired color of gridlines on the Color combo box.
• Press the Close button to see color changes on your chart grid lines.
Giving Border on Chart
Steps :
 
• Click on a chart, and then select the Format tab.
• Next, select the Shape Outline icon.
• Click the Weight option and specify the border line thickness that you
want to use.
• Next, select the desired border line color by clicking one of the colors
available.
• In your chart will show the desired colored border line.
Adding to the Chart Description
Steps :

• Select a chart to start, and then click the Design tab.


• Then press the Select Data icon.
• After that click on the Edit button.
• Series Name text box, type a description chart that would like to add.
• Continue by typing the other chart information until all information
completed. If so, press the OK button.
• There can view charts that have more complete data description than the
previous view.
Displaying Data in a Chart
Steps :

• Choose the Design tab first, and then click the Layout tab.
• Then Highlight the Chart Layouts, choose the model layout that displays
the chart data.
• You can see the view data chart in your chart that appears in full.
Legend Format
Steps :

• Click on the Legend in a chart first, and then activate the Format tab.
• Click on the icon Shape Fill.
• Continue to choose colors that will be applied to the Legend according to
your tastes.
• After that, press the icon Shape Effects on the Format tab.
• Click the option Glow and select the desired effect.
• As a result, the display Legend will become more attractive with the
addition of color and glow effects.
Make a Chart with SmartArt
You can generate a variety of interesting graphs with one easy step.
Create Chart
Steps :
 
• Turn on the Insert tab, and then tap the icon SmartArt.
• Dialog box will appear to select the category chart. The categories
available are List, Process, Hierarchy, Relationship, Matrix, Pyramid and
Picture.
• Next, click one of the categories according to your needs, for example
Process. Then choose one model of chart you want to use.
• Press the OK button.
• Then type the data to be visualized in the form of charts.
Changing the Chart Layout
Steps :

• Click on the chart of your choice, and then activate the Design tab.
• Next, Highlight the Layout and click the More button to find the other
chart layout options.
• Choose one of the desired layout.
• Your chart will appear with the model layout that you selected earlier.
Change Color Chart
Steps :

• Click on the chart of your choice first, and then switch on the Design tab.
• After that, click the Change Color.
• Click the More button to bring up the color variations, and then click one
of the options available.
• Now, you can view a chart with a variety of colors more attractive.

Changing Colors and Fonts
Steps :

• Selection the text to be changed font type and color it.


• Then right-click mouse and choose the Font option.
• Select a new font type by clicking the Latin Text Font combo box on the
Font tab.
• Continue by selecting the desired font color by clicking the Color combo
box, then click OK.
Adding Images to Chart
Steps :
 
• Make sure that you have chosen a layout that has the image format.
• Click the Picture icon.
• Select the picture you want added to the chart, then click the Insert
button.
• A moment later you can see the chart that has been added to display the
image.
 
Adding Image as Background Chart
Steps :

• Click the chart that will be enhanced display background and click the
right mouse button and select the option Format Object.
• Choose the Fill option and click the radio button Picture or Texture Fill,
then click the File button.
• Select an image to use as background, and then press the Insert button.
• Background SmartArt chart will be decorated with images of your choice.
• To insert an object from clip art, press the Clip Art.
• Next, select one of the objects contained in the Clip Art panel.
• Background SmartArt chart you will look more attractive with the
presence of objects selected from the Clip Art.
Adding Shape
Steps :

• Make sure you have selected a SmartArt layout.


• Next, insert images and type in the graph.
• After that, turn on the Design tab and click Add Shape icon on the Create
Graphic group.
• Select the option Add Shape After.
• New shape will appear to the right shape that does not exist previously.
• Enter additional information into the new shape.
