GATE 2022 Marking Scheme
Candidates must take a look at the below-marking scheme of
GATE 2022. The paper covers a total of 65 questions of 100
marks for each of the 27 subjects.

Analog communications: amplitude modulation and demodulation, angle

modulation and demodulation, spectra of AM and FM, superheterodyne receivers,

Information theory: entropy, mutual information and channel capacity theorem.

Fundamentals of error correction, Hamming codes, CRC

Random processes: autocorrelation and power spectral density, properties of white

noise, filtering of random signals through LTI systems.

Digital communications: PCM, DPCM, digital modulation schemes (ASK, PSK,

FSK, QAM), bandwidth, inter-symbol interference, MAP, ML detection, matched
filter receiver, SNR and BER.

• Analog signal: An analog signal is any
continuous signal for which the time-varying
feature of the signal is a representation of
some other time varying quantity, i.e.,
analogous to another time varying signal.
• Digital signal: A digital signal is a signal that is being
used to represent data as a sequence of discrete values;
at any given time it can only take on one of a finite
number of values. This contrasts with an analog signal,
which represents continuous values; at any given time it
represents a real number within a continuous range of
values.
• Simple digital signals represent information in discrete
bands of analog levels. All levels within a band of values
represent the same information state. In most digital
circuits, the signal can have two possible values; this is
called a binary signal or logic signal
 Signal ?
• In signal processing, a signal is a function that
conveys information about a phenomenon. In
electronics and telecommunications, it refers
to any time varying voltage, current or
electromagnetic wave that carries
information. A signal may also be defined as
an observable change in a quality such as
quantity.
