BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Corona virus is a RNA virus which is found in human and birds and its diameter
is about 60nm to 140nm. Corona virus has a property of mutation and recombinant
behaviour. Coronavirus has totally 7 strain out of these three strains are fatal, that
are MERS-COV, SAR-COV and SAR-COV- 19. In 2002-2003, 774 died and 8000
people were affected by SARS. In 2012, due to MERS-COV 858 died and 2494
were affected..Currently COVID-19 caused 5,56,335 deaths infecting around 216
countries. COVID- 19 stands for ‘CO’ as corona, 'VI' for virus, and 'D' for disease.

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
The World Health Organization declared the SARS-CoV-2 infection as a pandemic in
March 2020. After that, many of the countries including India introduced lockdown
measures to slow down the spread of the virus in the community. The preventive measures
suggested are social distancing, identification and isolation of cases, contact tracing and
creating containment zones, and disinfection of the environment. Countrywide lockdown is
implemented. India went in lockdown from March 25, 2020. Relaxations of the lockdown
were implemented from May 4, 2020, permitting only minimal activities in the community.
From the beginning itself Schools and educational institutions, playgrounds, and
entertainment centres were closed. During lockdown, people was afraid of infection
transmission,

money loss, doubtful about future, and lack of vent of stresses.  (3)

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Less than 2% of the paediatric population is affected by COVID- 19.

In paediatric population the virus is less symptomatic and fatal
compared with adult population. Infected children usually have mild
symptoms and 15-30% are asymptomatic. Severe disease requiring
oxygen supplementation is 3% and critically is less than 1%. (5)

NEED AND SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
• As per the WHO statistics on 18th June 2021, Globally there have been 17,71,08,695
confirmed cases of COVID -19. In India 2,99,35,221 coronavirus cases and 3,88,164

developing countries. Globally 168 million children School were been completely
closed. 1 in 7 children have missed more than three quarters of their in-person learning

20.09.21 Research problem presentation 1st Year MSc Nursing CON- PIMS 6
NEED AND SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
• 188 countries imposed country wide school closure. 463 million children globally not
able to access the remote learning. 2 million under five death may occur due to less
access to health services. 2 lakhs additional still birth can occur due to less access to
health services.

• Children are becoming malnourished in vulnerable population due to the detoriating

quality of their diets. Vaccine saves an estimated 2 to 3million lives but due to COVID
-19 threat 14 million children did not receive any vaccine. 1.8 billion children living in
104 countries are risk for violence, exploitation and abuse to disrupted violence
prevention and response services
