• Generally three types of smoke comes out from the chimney
• Black smoke • White smoke • Yellow smoke Black smoke • If the smoke is black, means in furnace fuels is not burning the completely and fuel is being wasted. • It is generally due to less supply of air in the furnace. White smoke • It is due to ash carryover in the flue gases • This may be due to inefficient ash extraction, firing coal with higher ash content than the design. • Too much air is supplied for burning of the fuels inside the furnace. Yellow smoke • If the smoke comes out by the chimney is yellow, means the flue gas contains a large amount of Sulphur. • It is due to less supply of air. • It is also due to improper combustion of fuel and formation of carbon monoxide which is injurious to health.
