RADIATION
AND
ULTA-VIOLET RADIATION
The earth has a high intensity oxygenated ozone layer as
its cover which absorbs most of the ultraviolet rays. But if
the ozone layer becomes thin as, indeed, it has, some of the
UV rays reach the earth and may be a hazard to human life
and health.

These have different names and forms such as ultraviolet

rays, gamma rays, infrared rays, radio waves, microwaves,
visible rays, etc.
The sun spreads its rays of light in the form of
electromagnetic radiation. Radiation is energy that
comes from a source and travels through space at
the speed of light
The most dangerous among all the rays mentioned above
are the ultraviolet (UV) rays. It is an Invisible ray that are part
of the energy that comes from the sun. The earth has a high
intensity oxygenated ozone layer as its cover which absorbs
most of the ultraviolet rays.
UV rays can cause sunburn, alteration of
connective tissue of dermis, tanning of skin and
even skin cancer and other diseases. Shielding
your skin from the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays is
one of the most important things you can do to
prevent skin cancer, premature aging, and other
types of sun damage.
SKIN CANCER
PREVENTION
Generously apply a broad-spectrum water-
resistant sunscreen with an SPF (Sun Protection
Factor) of at least 30 to all exposed skin. Broad
spectrum means the sunscreen protects you from
both UVA and UVB rays
Wear protective clothing such as a
long-sleeved shirt, pants, a wide-
brimmed hat, and sunglasses,
whenever possible
Seek shade when appropri
Remember that the sun's rays
strongest between 10 a.M. and 4
p.M
Do not use tanning beds. Ultraviolet light
from the sun and tanning beds can cause
skin cancer and wrinkling
Drink 8-12 glass every day
to maintain your skin
healthy and moist.
